ILS Engineer
About this role
We're looking for a Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineer with practical experience in engineering and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS). The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, self-starter who enjoys solving technical problems, can work independently, and is confident managing engineering activities such as investigations, technical documentation and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs). This role is best suited to someone at the intermediate level who is looking to further develop their engineering and ILS expertise while supporting a complex Defence capability.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support for the AIR5431 capability across Mechanical, Electrical and Systems disciplines as required.
- Deliver and support Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) activities throughout the sustainment lifecycle.
- Develop, review and update engineering and technical documentation, including maintenance procedures, work instructions and technical reports.
- Conduct engineering investigations, root cause analysis and support the implementation of corrective actions.
- Initiate, develop and manage Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), driving engineering changes through the approval and implementation process.
- Support configuration management, engineering change activities and technical data management.
- Contribute to reliability, maintainability and availability improvements.
- Assist with provisioning, spares analysis, obsolescence management and repair development activities.
- Participate in maintenance planning, verification and validation (V&V), and site support activities as required.
- Liaise with customers, subcontractors and international engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and support operations.
Skills and Experience
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Engineering (or equivalent).
- Experience in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) within Defence or another complex engineering environment.
- Working knowledge of engineering documentation, technical investigations and configuration management.
- Experience managing engineering changes and technical documentation throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, maintenance documentation and engineering specifications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Experience supporting Defence acquisition or in-service support programs.
- Ability to manage, organise and maintain controlled technical documentation within SharePoint environments.
- Experience using ILS/LSA tools such as E-MRD or similar logistics support analysis applications.
- Understanding of the Authority to Fit (ADAASS) process and Defence engineering governance.
- Experience using Defence asset management and maintenance systems such as CAMM2, AMPS, MEX,EMP or similar enterprise asset management tools.
- Knowledge of MIL-STDs, Defence ILS methodologies and configuration management principles.
- Experience with engineering change processes and technical data management.
- Experience working on radar systems, or alternatively complex aviation, electrical or electronic systems.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
