About this role

Business Development Manager

Pharmaceutical Marketing Communications  |  Mid-Level  |  Full-Time |  Mumbai/ Bangalore

About the Role

We are looking for a driven and commercially savvy Business Development Manager to join our growing team. This is a mid-level role for a professional who has already built a meaningful track record in client acquisition and account growth — ideally within pharma, healthcare, or marketing communications. You know how to open doors, nurture relationships, and close deals, and you understand what it takes to communicate compliantly and effectively in a regulated industry.

You will be responsible for identifying and converting new business opportunities while managing and expanding a portfolio of existing accounts. Working cross-functionally with strategy, creative, and medical affairs teams, you will serve as the bridge between client need and internal capability.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Growth

•     Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities across pharmaceutical and life sciences clients.

•     Lead the end-to-end sales process: prospecting, needs assessment, proposal development, negotiation, and close.

•     Develop and maintain a healthy pipeline, with consistent conversion from prospect to retained client.

•     Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to build brand presence.

Account Management & Retention

•     Grow revenue from an assigned portfolio of existing accounts through upsell, cross-sell, and renewal activities.

•     Act as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact for key clients, ensuring satisfaction and long-term retention.

•     Conduct regular account reviews and use insights to proactively address client needs and identify growth opportunities.

•     Partner with delivery and strategy teams to ensure seamless onboarding and ongoing service quality.

Pharma Marketing Communications Expertise

•     Apply a strong understanding of pharmaceutical marketing communications — including promotional, medical education, and digital channels — to craft compelling, compliance-ready pitches and proposals.

•     Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory frameworks and apply this fluency when advising clients on communications strategy.

•     Collaborate with medical and regulatory affairs colleagues to ensure all client-facing materials meet industry standards.

•     Confidently engage with scientific content and translate complex data into commercially relevant messaging for clients.

Strategy & Reporting

•     Contribute to annual business development planning, setting targets, and identifying strategic market opportunities.

•     Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all activity in CRM systems.

•     Provide regular reporting on pipeline status, revenue forecasts, and account health to senior leadership.

What We're Looking For

•     3–5 years of experience in business development, account management, or sales — with meaningful time spent in pharmaceutical, healthcare, or marketing communications.

•     Demonstrable track record of winning new business and growing accounts against revenue targets.

•     Solid understanding of the pharma marketing ecosystem: promotional communications, medical education, multichannel campaigns, and the regulatory environment that governs them.

•     Excellent communicator — written, verbal, and in presentations — with the ability to engage confidently with both commercial and scientific stakeholders.

•     Consultative approach to selling: you listen carefully, identify real needs, and propose solutions with genuine value.

•     Comfortable working autonomously and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

•     Is open to travelling and meeting clients face to face.

•     Proficiency in CRM tools and confident user of standard productivity software.

•     A degree in life sciences, marketing, business, or a related field is preferred but not essential where strong experience is evident.

Nice to Have

•     Experience working within or selling to medical affairs & pharma marketing teams.

•     Familiarity with digital and omni-channel marketing strategies within pharma.

•     An existing network of contacts at pharmaceutical manufacturers or agencies.

•     Exposure to pitching and winning competitive RFP process.
