The Opportunity – Structural Engineer
Hazen Canada is seeking a motivated Junior to Intermediate Structural Engineer to join our Calgary, Alberta office. This position offers the opportunity to work on challenging and rewarding projects involving the planning, design, and construction of water, wastewater, and conveyance infrastructure throughout Canada and the United States. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced professionals while contributing to multidisciplinary project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design for water, wastewater, and conveyance infrastructure projects.
- Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction drawings.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including civil, mechanical, electrical, process, and construction professionals.
- Support project delivery through construction administration and site-related activities.
- Participate in the development of innovative and cost-effective structural solutions.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Contribute to projects located across Canada and the United States.
- Work under senior engineering supervision with opportunities for mentorship, technical development, and career growth.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGA.
- Ability to obtain professional registration in other Canadian provinces and Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in the United States is considered an asset.
- Candidates should possess knowledge of applicable structural design codes and standards, including:
- National Building Code of Canada (NBCC)
- CSA standards for concrete and steel design
- ACI 318 and ACI 350
- Knowledge of the following would be considered an asset:
- AISC Specifications
- ASCE Standards
- International Building Code (IBC)
- Design and construction of environmental structures, including:
- Industrial buildings
- Pump stations
- Process basins
- Water and wastewater treatment facilities
Experience Requirements
- 3 to 8 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience in the design and construction of:
- Structural steel structures
- Reinforced concrete structures
- Reinforced masonry structures
- Aluminum structures
- Familiarity with structural analysis and design software.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment both in person and remotely.
