Staff Software Engineer, Developer Experience (DevEx)

Join Harvey's Developer Experience team to build the CI/CD systems, internal frameworks, and platform-level guardrails that enable engineers to ship ambitious AI features rapidly and safely. You'll maximize engineering velocity across the organization and have a unique opportunity to apply AI directly to developer productivity within an AI-native company.

What you'll do

• Develop and scale Harvey's developer platform—including robust CI/CD, test frameworks, and reliable environments—to accelerate engineering velocity and stability.
• Build load testing and benchmarking infrastructure essential for evaluating and optimizing the performance of AI-native applications.
• Pioneer the future of software development by integrating AI agents across the development, deployment, and maintenance lifecycle.
• Collaborate with Backend Platform teams to embed testability, reliability, and observability into foundational platform services.
• Work closely with engineering teams to gather feedback, evangelize best practices, and make the "paved road" a reality for every Harvey engineer.
• Set the strategic direction and roadmap for scaling developer experience and provide strong technical leadership and mentorship across the team.

What Harvey is looking for

• 7+ years of software engineering experience building scalable backend systems or internal developer platforms.
• Proficiency in Python and deep knowledge of backend development fundamentals and distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems (such as Buildkite or GitHub Actions), test frameworks, and load or performance testing.
• Hands-on experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure as code (Pulumi, Terraform).
• A track record of shipping high-quality, well-tested code and providing technical leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle.
• Experience mentoring engineers, guiding architectural decisions, and shaping a culture of engineering excellence.
• Strong problem-solving skills, a passion for improving developer experience, and excellent cross-functional collaboration abilities.
• Experience integrating AI agents into a developer ecosystem is a strong plus.
