Position Summary

The Ground Combat Vehicle Product Safety Engineer is a senior technical role responsible for leading and performing safety and hazard analysis of ground combat vehicles and associated systems. The Product Safety Engineer is a key member of the System Engineering team directly responsible with interacting with the design team to ensure safe product design and key interface to the US Army customer safety team delivering key safety and hazard analysis reports to enable testing and eventual material release for the product. The role requires experience within the U.S. defense sector and the ability to collaborate with government customers, industry partners, and internal engineering teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • As primary safety engineering lead for HDUSA develop and apply product development and processes in accordance with MIL-STD-882 and software safety engineering as outlined in the Joint Software System Safety Engineering Handbook (JSSSEH).
  • Develop and lead within the system engineering a MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs.
  • As safety principal engineer, perform System Safety Program, Hazard analyses and Safety Design Analysis.
  • Act as primarily customer interface for all matter related to product safety and product safety deliverables.
  • Directly interface with US Army test personnel in the safety release process.
  • Implement safety processes into HDUSA’s evolving Model Based System Engineering process.

Required Qualifications:

  • System Safety Engineer: Bachelor of science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 5 years of military/professional experience 
  • Desired Master of Science Degree in a STEM discipline
  • Extensive experience in MIL-STD-882 with System Safety Engineering with Software or Firmware Engineering or Electrical Engineering experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Experience with requirements tools such as DOORS, Cameo, PLM, Safety and Agile software tools, and JIRA.
  • Excellent interpersonal and project management skills to enable the ability to manage a safety program and interface directly with US Army customer.
