We are looking for a Manufacturing Group Lead that will be responsible for advising and coordinating the activities of personnel, equipment, and processes within their assigned work center(s). They will apply their knowledge of production methods, processes, machine and equipment, engineering change management, and production capacities. Primary responsibility of the Group Lead includes, but is not limited to, team safety, team morale, product quality, training, project management, process development and on-time delivery/schedule adherence.
Responsibilities include:
- Leads by example in all aspects of the job's responsibilities: Safety, People, Quality, Production, and Cost.
- Plan and execute production improvement projects from concept to implementation. Aggressively drive change and improvements to cost, quality, availability, and rate; review, analyze, and implement new products or design concepts for manufacturability; ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, performance, and manufacturing standards; and document and defend recommended changes and solutions.
- Facilitate work within company's internal systems (ECO's, IS, MRP and CAD software etc.).
- Responsible for the safety and well-being of all personnel and compliance to all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Creates a positive workplace environment consistent with our company's values and ensures equitable treatment is given to all employees.
- Communicates effectively with direct reports and ensures development and effective coaching through one on one's, performance evaluations, and daily feedback.
- Ensures adequate staff coverage for all shifts, accounting for employee vacations and unplanned absences.
- Responsible for managing and coordinating training throughout areas of responsibility with focus on professional development and building the best team.
- Ensures that the quality of the company's products are maintained and improved upon in accordance with the company's philosophy.
- Ensures daily production goals are met through daily metric monitoring.
- Leads continuous improvement efforts with the focus on implementing improved and sustainable processes.
- Responsible for all manufacturing costs associated with assigned work center(s), including but not limited to, consumable spend, scrap, and direct labor/overtime.
- Reports down machines and supports routing maintenance.
- Effectively communicates and presents information upwards.
- Works collaboratively with all teams.
- Lead and mentor a team of manufacturing engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and professional development support to drive individual and team growth.
- Define and drive categorical improvements in cost, yield, OEE, and manufacturing efficiencies; justify, plan, and coordinate strategic manufacturing initiatives with internal and external stakeholders.
- Oversee and evaluate operational costs for equipment and processes in areas of responsibility, including yield, scrap, manpower, and rate; implement corrective actions based on data-driven analysis.
- Maintain and improve assembly documentation, BOMs, and production routings with a continuous improvement mindset.
- Troubleshoot complex production floor issues and lead root cause analysis efforts; implement and validate corrective actions.
- Coordinate and oversee automation equipment projects from concept through implementation, managing to desired OEE targets.
- Evaluate new technologies and manufacturing methods; lead adoption and implementation across the engineering team.
Qualifications
- Strong technical understanding of mechanics, electromechanical equipment, and CNC machining equipment.
- Demonstrated analytical/problem solving experience using data to drive solutions.
- Demonstrated situational leadership.
- Demonstrated success driving significant change to production processes and equipment.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to deal with various employees, personalities, backgrounds, and skill levels.
- Willingness to accept change and the ability to affect policy and technical changes with subordinates and peer groups.
- Position requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- Self-motivated, Self-Starter.
- Partnering with cross-functional management to drive cost and productivity/efficiency improvements.
- Personally exhibit excellent skills and capabilities to effectively solve problems.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop technical engineering teams in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing cross-functional engineering projects from concept through implementation, including scope, schedule, and budget accountability.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously based on organizational directives and business impact.
- Strong mentorship skills with the ability to develop engineers at varying skill levels.
- Experience with PLC programming, controls engineering, or automation systems integration preferred.
- Proficiency with CAD software, MRP systems, and manufacturing execution systems.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, industrial or similar Engineering or equivalent experience required.
- Experience successfully concepting, specifying, designing, and/or implementing automation equipment and capital projects, then managing to desired OEE.
- Experience documenting instructions, equipment documentation, preventative maintenance plans, and recovery plans.
- Experience or certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing or equipment engineering position at a production facility.
- Experience leading or supervising engineering staff in a technical manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with automation equipment specification, design, and implementation, including managing to OEE targets.
- PLC, software programming experience, or automated system integration preferred.
