About this role

Company Overview

Griffon Aerospace is a trusted aerospace solutions provider based in Madison, Alabama, specializing in the design, development, and operation of advanced unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Since 1995, we have delivered over 12,000 unmanned air vehicles to the Department of Defense, allied nations, and commercial customers. We pride ourselves on being a lion-hearted partner, designing, building, and flying the most capable and intelligent aerial systems that give our servicemen an unfair advantage wherever they fly.

Position Overview:

The Mid-Level Systems Engineer will support the definition, analysis, and maturation of complex aerospace and defense systems using model-based systems engineering (MBSE). This role will translate stakeholder needs into clear system requirements, architectures, interfaces, and verification evidence, with hands-on development and maintenance of SysML models in Cameo Systems Modeler/MagicDraw. The ideal candidate is a collaborative engineer who can work independently across the system lifecycle and communicate effectively with software, hardware, integration, test, safety, cybersecurity, and program teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain SysML system models in Cameo Systems Modeler/MagicDraw, including requirements, use cases, block definition, internal block, activity, sequence, and state-machine views as appropriate.
  • Elicit, analyze, decompose, and allocate stakeholder and system requirements while maintaining bidirectional traceability to architecture, interfaces, verification methods, and supporting evidence.
  • Support development of system concepts, functional and physical architectures, interface definitions, operational scenarios, and trade studies for UAS and related mission systems.
  • Collaborate with software, electrical, mechanical, integration, test, safety, and cybersecurity teams to resolve cross-disciplinary design and interface issues.
  • Apply model governance, configuration management, baseline, and change-control practices to maintain model quality and consistency across program increments.
  • Support technical reviews and decision events, including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and customer reviews, by preparing model views, analyses, and objective evidence.
  • Develop verification approaches, acceptance criteria, and traceability; support integration and test activities and document results against system requirements.
  • Prepare clear engineering analyses, specifications, interface documentation, briefings, and contract deliverables, and communicate technical issues and recommendations to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 4+ years of systems engineering, architecture, requirements, integration, verification, or related engineering experience.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience developing or maintaining system models in Cameo Systems Modeler/MagicDraw or a closely related MBSE tool.
  • Working knowledge of SysML and the practical use of model elements, relationships, viewpoints, and traceability to communicate system intent.
  • Experience with requirements development, decomposition, allocation, interface definition, and verification planning across the engineering lifecycle.
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems, document assumptions and decisions, and work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, collaboration, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. SECRET security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with UAS, aerospace, defense, avionics, mission systems, autonomy, or other safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with Cameo Teamwork Cloud/CATIA No Magic collaboration, model libraries, validation rules, report generation, or model governance.
  • Familiarity with requirements and lifecycle tools such as IBM DOORS, Jama Connect, Jira, Confluence, or GitLab.
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 or 29148, DoDAF/UAF, MIL-STD-882, digital engineering practices, or government acquisition environments.
  • INCOSE ASEP/CSEP, OMG OCSMP certification, or comparable systems engineering or MBSE training.
