Human Resources Generalist – Employee Relations & Compliance

Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist – Employee Relations & Compliance serves as the primary resource for employee relations, leave administration, workplace investigations, and employment law compliance for a multi-division transportation and hospitality company with approximately 300 employees. This position partners with leaders across Charter, School Bus, Sightseeing, Maintenance, and administrative departments to foster a positive workplace while ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies. The position reports directly to the CEO and works closely with the Human Resources Generalist – Operations & Talent Acquisition.
Company Overview
Gray Line Tennessee operates Charter Transportation, School Bus Transportation, Sightseeing & Tourism, Fleet Maintenance, and Corporate Administration. HR supports approximately 300 employees, including CDL drivers, mechanics, operations staff, dispatchers, tour personnel, and office employees.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Serve as the primary contact for employee relations matters and workplace concerns.
· Conduct workplace investigations and prepare recommendations.
· Advise managers on coaching, corrective action, and performance management.
· Administer ADA accommodations and coordinate the interactive process.
· Administer FMLA and other protected leave programs.
· Manage workers' compensation claims and return-to-work processes.
· Coordinate unemployment claims and hearings.
· Maintain personnel files, I-9s, and employment compliance records.
· Support payroll processing and respond to employee payroll questions.
· Conduct new hire orientation and assist with onboarding.
· Partner on recruiting activities across all divisions.
· Promote a culture focused on safety, compliance, and employee engagement.
· Cross-train with the HR Generalist – Operations & Talent Acquisition.
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
· 2–4 years of Human Resources experience.
· Experience with employee relations, ADA, FMLA, workers' compensation, and compliance.
· Experience supporting transportation, logistics, hospitality, or other multi-site operations preferred.
· Knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and safety-sensitive workplace regulations is a plus.
· Experience supporting CDL drivers or regulated employees preferred.
· SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
· Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
· Knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance.
· Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels.
· Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and sound judgment.
Work Environment
· On-site position based in Nashville, Tennessee.
· Supports a 24/7 transportation and hospitality operation.
· Occasional travel between company locations may be required.
· Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary.
