REPORTS TO: Community School Director
SALARY RANGE: $20 hours, 20 hours a week; prorated vacation and sick time
DATE: September 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027
SCHEDULE: Must be available during school hours, Mon-Fri; scheduling may vary due to the needs of the program.
JOB SUMMARY: The Success Mentor will work closely with Community Schools stakeholders (students, parents, families, school staff, teachers, and community members) to implement the Community School model and focus on: attendance improvement, mental health, school environment, family engagement, and community partnerships. The Success Mentor will work and build connections with students at MS 582 to ensure students’ needs are being met. In addition, a Success Mentor works closely with the Community School Team (director, social worker, case manager, and outreach worker) to provide resources that will enhance the Community School and build a community hub where members of the community, family, and students can come for support.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- College student required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish required
- At least 1 – 2 years’ experience working with middle school students
- Strong organizational and computer skills
- Demonstrate the ability to handle multiple tasks/Excellent facilitation and communication skills
- Outstanding collaborative skills
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support all attendance initiatives, including daily attendance outreach to parents of students in chronic absenteeism, facilitate a Success Mentor Program, and conduct 1x1 weekly check-ins with students in chronic absenteeism
- Support small skill-building groups with the social worker
- Support students' social-emotional learning and positive behavior in the classroom
- Promote a culture where students and staff feel safe and welcome
- Support the implementation of restorative approaches and work closely with teachers and staff
- Support and generate attendance improvement initiatives for schools and chronically absent students
- Develop agenda and support in facilitation of weekly collaborative attendance team meetings
- Support the Success Mentor Program in building connections between students and school/CBO staff
- Provide families with monthly workshops on how to support students' learning
- Maintain ongoing open communication with parents and school-based staff
- Work closely with case manager, social worker, and outreach worker to support targeted students’ needs
- Participate in ongoing efforts to advocate for program needs via community coalition building.
- Attend all required department/ agency meetings and/ or trainings
- Other/ special duties as assigned by supervisor and/ or senior staff
