  • Civil Crown Counsel 3 - $ 7,450.08 to $ 8,260.75 bi-weekly ($194,447.09 - $ 215,605.58/year)

Role Responsibilities

Are you an exceptional lawyer looking for a unique challenge with meaningful impact? Alberta Justice - Legal Services Division has an opportunity for you to join the Trade, Innovation, Post Secondary Legal Team (TIPS).

 

We are looking for a dynamic lawyer to provide solicitor services to our clients.

 

TIPS provides legal and strategic advice to the Government of Alberta, including to the following departments: Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration (JETI), Advanced Education (AE), Tourism and Sport (TS), and Technology and Innovation (TI). We provide advice on contracts, grants and procurement matters, legislative development, implementation and interpretation, administrative law matters, access and privacy, risk management, departmental programs, and strategic initiatives. The work is fast paced and provided in a team environment.

 

In your role with TIPS, your responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting substantive legal opinions (often with cross-team involvement),
  • Providing legal and strategic advice to a diverse group of clients, with a focus on
      • Administrative Law
      • Contracts Law
      • Corporate Law
      • Statutory Interpretation
      • Privacy Law
  • Drafting and review of contracts, grants, and other legal agreements,
  • Providing legal advisory services for the development of legislative projects,
  • Advising on procurement issues,
  • Conducting legal research, and
  • Acting as a resource for Legal Services Division colleagues.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD) is required. For Law degrees obtained outside Canada, proof of accreditation from the National Committee on Accreditation (NCA) is required. You must be an active member or must have immediate eligibility for full membership with the Law Society of Alberta.

 

Below is the minimum number of years required for each classification:

  • Civil Crown Counsel 2: Minimum of 4 years legal experience.
  • Civil Crown Counsel 3: Minimum of 11 years legal experience.

  • Legal experience and expertise,
  • Relevant strengths and skills, and
  • Reasons for interest in the position.

Assets include experience providing legal advice on:

  • Contracts, grants and procurement,
  • The development of legislation and statutory instruments,
  • Statutory interpretation in a government context, including legislation specific to the Crown and/or public agencies,
  • The application of administrative law principles to decision-makers, and
  • Governance matters respecting public agencies.

Notes

Hours of work: 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week (Monday - Friday).

 

Positions currently available: This competition will be used to fill Temporary and permanent CCC2- CCC3 positions.

 

Location: Bowker Building, 9833 109 Street, Edmonton, Alberta.
