founding engineer

This founding engineer role at Glue will design and build the core backend systems that enable reliable financial integrations, workflow orchestration, and the foundations of a ledger; you’ll work closely with founders and early customers (CFOs, Controllers) to deliver high‑impact outcomes. This team shapes Glue’s technical culture and directly influences product direction by rapidly prototyping, measuring impact, and deciding what to double down on.

What you'll do

• Design, build, and operate backend services and public APIs used by customers and partners.
• Implement and maintain connectors for ERPs, banks, fiscal documents, and files to ingest financial data.
• Build initial ETL pipelines with strong data quality controls and reconciliation logic.
• Establish observability and operational excellence, including logging, metrics, alerting, and on‑call practices.
• Collaborate with founders and design partners to discover problems, prototype fast, and decide what to build or retire.
• Apply LLMs and AI pragmatically where they deliver measurable ROI (search, classification, automation).
• Document architectural decisions, testing standards, and security practices to raise engineering quality.

What Glue is looking for

• Senior backend experience owning production systems end‑to‑end.
• Strong experience designing APIs and modeling transactional data for OLTP systems, understanding consistency vs availability trade‑offs.
• Experience building and maintaining integrations with external APIs (auth, rate limits, retries, webhooks), preferably with ERPs, banking APIs, or other financial systems.
• Comfortable extracting and normalizing unstructured data (PDFs, XML, emails).
• Practical cloud and DevOps skills (AWS/GCP, Docker, CI/CD, logging/monitoring) to deploy services to production.
• Familiarity with ledgers and accounting concepts (double‑entry bookkeeping, journal entries, reconciliation).
• Experience with event‑driven architectures (Kafka, SQS, webhooks), workflow engines (Temporal, Airflow, Prefect), and production LLM deployments with guardrails.
• Background in fintech or B2B SaaS and/or prior founding‑engineer experience is a plus.
