About the Role
We are looking for a Site Architect to work under the Programme Management Business Group, providing project management and construction supervision services. The Site Architect will assist the Project Manager and/or Resident Engineer in administering the day-to-day operational activities of the project. The role will include the review and processing of architectural submittals by contractors, including design documents, prequalification submissions, material proposals, shop drawings, method statements, construction drawings, RFIs and as-built documentation. The Site Architect will also undertake site inspections and continuous surveillance of assigned architectural and interior works to verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, applicable codes, quality requirements, construction schedules, and health and safety requirements. Non-conformances shall be documented, and the Site Architect may participate in identifying and implementing appropriate resolutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead architectural coordination with other disciplines and support the Project Manager and/or Resident Engineer in performing contractual duties on site.
- Assist with the processing of contract documents and contract administration activities related to architectural works.
- Develop, modify, review, correct and update architectural production drawings, construction documents and design information, as required.
- Advise the Project Manager on technical matters relating to architectural and interior works that may affect construction progress, quality, cost, safety or programme.
- Review and process architectural shop drawings, technical submittals, material proposals, prequalification submissions, method statements, RFIs, as-built drawings and other construction submissions from project inception through close-out using Rivit / BIM is mandatory.
- Review contractor shop drawings against the approved design and tender drawings (BIM model) to verify clash free compliance with the design intent, specifications and project requirements, and provide appropriate recommendations or comments.
- Review proposed architectural materials and subcontractors from a technical standpoint and advise the Project Manager on their suitability and compliance.
- Provide practical resolutions to architectural and multidisciplinary technical issues and coordinate the implementation of agreed solutions to maintain progress on site.
- Monitor architectural and interior works, including finishes, fit-out works and associated interfaces, for compliance with approved documents, quality standards and contractual requirements.
- Undertake site observations, work inspections and material inspections to verify the contractor’s compliance with approved shop drawings, consultant specifications, good construction practice, programme requirements, and health and safety procedures.
- Monitor procurement and delivery of architectural materials to support timely execution of construction activities.
- Lead and coordinate architectural snagging and de-snagging activities to support completion and handover.
- Attend project, progress, coordination and technical meetings as directed by the Project Manager and prepare draft site or engineer’s instructions when required.
- Provide technical input to the Project Manager regarding architectural variations and related contractor claims.
- Oversee architects and inspectors responsible for architectural works and verify that construction and installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control requirements.
- Apply and monitor project quality control procedures for construction supervision activities and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinate with construction management to identify and eliminate hazards associated with architectural works that may affect the environment or the health and safety of personnel.
- Review and interpret architectural drawings and specifications to confirm that the latest revisions are being used and that works are technically executed correctly.
- Perform other responsibilities associated with the position, as may be appropriate.
- Degree in Architecture or a related field.
- Minimum of 12 years of postgraduate experience, including at least 5 years of relevant experience in architectural design review and construction supervision on large projects.
- Strong technical knowledge and the ability to resolve architectural design and construction issues on site.
- Good knowledge of applicable building codes, Qatar Construction Specifications, and relevant Qatar authority requirements.
- Relevant professional or authority registration in Qatar is preferred.
- Ability to manage and coordinate specialised architectural activities, multidisciplinary interfaces, and a team of moderate size and complexity.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp or 3ds Max, Photoshop, MS Project or Primavera, PowerPoint, and the Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability and willingness to undertake coordinated design reviews in a Revit/BIM environment.
Flexibility to work in a multi-project environment.
