Job Description Summary

This role will shape and grow design activities for the Pitch Bearing Engineering team within the Mechanical Subsystem Engineering segment, proactively identifying capability gaps and driving the creation of new initiatives. Responsibilities will include owning the strategy for new product (NPI) design and development, total lifecycle cost, validation, productivity, and fleet support efforts for the OneWind organization.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide senior design expertise and FE analysis leadership for the pitch bearing component within the OneWind organization, shaping best practices for the broader team.
  • Own design support strategy for NPI, RCA/Quality, validation, and total lifecycle cost initiatives of pitch bearings, proactively identifying and closing capability gaps.
  • Drive collaboration across cross functional teams, including Systems, Sourcing, Sourcing Quality, Materials, Services, Fleet Management, Lab Testing, and GE Suppliers to shape optimum rotor and turbine lifecycle cost strategy.
  • Own and shape the Multi Generation Product Plan (MGPP) strategy, proactively identifying new initiatives that drive site specific customer value with pitch bearings.
  • Proactively identify emerging technology needs and drive the creation of new projects to bring new technology into products.
  • Shape and drive cost-out strategy via component, subsystem, and system level redesigns.
  • Champion GD&T standards across the team, mentoring others in creating technical drawings and specifications.
  • Own and shape testing strategy that resolves design validation/field issues/PAC activities, partnering with the Fleet Support team and Regional Customer Solution teams.
  • Responsible for the most complex, ambiguous assignments with long-term business implications, proactively identifying gaps and driving the creation of new projects with minimal oversight.
  • Effectively communicate and provide strategic recommendations through analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical material to internal and external audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Own hub mechanical subsystem problem solving and risk mitigation strategy, growing team capability in this area.
  • Lead and shape engagement with the Controlled Title Holders community across the business and global team to ensure high quality and consistency on systems design and trade-off decisions, and drive design practice evolution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar from an accredited College or University
  • Expert problem identification and solving ability, with a track record of proactively identifying team/organizational gaps
  • Work well within and help shape a cross matrixed, global organization in a dynamic, ever-changing environment, operating with minimal oversight
  • Strong interpersonal skills, leading and influencing skills, and a positive energy; able to grow and mentor others
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze and resolve the most complex problems facing the team
  • Established project management skills; able to independently develop execution plans and proactively originate new projects
  • Self-driven continuous learner who proactively identifies gaps and drives the creation of new projects with minimal oversight
  • Experience with GD&T and fundamental technical drawing guidelines
  • Able to independently develop, interpret, and set standards for technical drawings and specifications

  • Extensive pitch bearing engineering experience
  • FEA experience
  • Structural design experience (component or part design, mechanical systems, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of wind turbine component design criteria and wind turbine systems integration
