Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) Manager

The Position
The Opportunity
The ICFR (Internal Control over Financial Reporting) role safeguards the integrity of Genentech's financial reporting by identifying and mitigating reporting risks. As a member of the Financial Compliance ICFR team, you'll partner with colleagues to bridge the Group Financial Compliance Department, the Segregation of Duties Competence Center, and Genentech's business process control owners – serving as a liaison among these key functions.
Primary Responsibilities:
Control Development & Support
Partner with control owners to develop, document, and implement control activities aligned with ICFR framework requirements, including supporting documentation.
Serve as the primary point of contact for control owners, providing audit support, guidance and training.
Maintain Process Narratives on behalf of control owners and monitor established controls after implementation to ensure ongoing compliance.
Testing & Audit Coordination
Collaborate with the Head of ICFR to plan and execute ICFR phases, including the Test of Design (DET) and Operating Effectiveness Testing (OET).
Conduct operating effectiveness testing and validate test results from self-testers.
Coordinate with internal and external auditors, address audit requests, and facilitate process walkthrough sessions.
Issue Resolution & Continuous Improvement
Partner with business teams to evaluate test results, investigate compliance gaps, and drive corrective and preventive action plans to resolution.
Support Segregation of Duties (SoD) compliance activities and resolve identified SoD exceptions.
Collaborate with control owners to propose design solutions that optimize and automate processes and control activities where applicable.
Strategic & Organizational Support
Provide the Head of ICFR with regular assessments of control environment quality and recommend improvements.
Deliver compliance consulting support for business initiatives that affect financial reporting (systems, processes, regulations, tools).
Support Financial Compliance projects (e.g., system enhancements) and participate in risk assessments and control design.
Monitor industry best practices and trends and recommend tools that support agility and digital transformation at Genentech.

Qualifications:
B.A. or B.S. degree and 3-5 years of financial compliance experience; pharmaceutical experience preferred.
Broad understanding of accounting and financial concepts.
Relevant professional certification (e.g., CPA or CIA) preferred.
Working knowledge of SAP GRC, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office preferred.
Core Competencies:
Demonstrated experience in auditing, testing, compliance management, and process development.
Practical compliance experience in both preventing (through training and controls design) and detecting (through monitoring and assessment) financial control failures.
Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities with the ability to identify patterns and support systemic improvements.

The expected salary range for this position, based on the primary location in California, is $104,700 - $194,400. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
