The Opportunity
The Field Training Partner for Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a critical, high-impact role responsible for developing, delivering, and managing training and continuous education for our field-based medical teams. This Field Training Partner for MSL position serves as the primary training and performance enablement link between the home office (HQ) and the field, ensuring consistent messaging, skill development, and execution of company strategy. The ideal candidate is a dynamic facilitator, instructional design enthusiast, and proven subject matter expert in field medical. This role is a key member of the Learning & Skill Development team and will report into the Sr. Director of Medical.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, build, and facilitate comprehensive remote and in-person onboarding programs for new medical hires to ensure rapid proficiency in scientific knowledge, tools, and business processes.
Develop and deliver continuous education modules—including interactive workshops, webinars, and e-learning—focused on new product launches, competitive intelligence, compliance, and therapeutic strategy.
Serve as a high-energy, credible master facilitator for live and virtual learning events, national meetings, and regional workshops.
Conduct ongoing field training needs assessments via ride-alongs, data analysis, and close partnership with Field Medical Managers to identify critical skill gaps and leadership development opportunities.
Provide direct, real-time field coaching and modeling during routine field visits/ride-alongs to elevate customer engagement and strategic capability.
Act as the key Subject Matter Expert (SME) liaison between field medical and home office functions (Marketing, Operations, Product) to transform complex data into clear, consumable learning tools.
Track, evaluate, and report key training effectiveness metrics (e.g., knowledge evaluations, field performance metrics) to continuously refine curriculum and align learning with business impact.
Who you are
Clinical degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent)
3+ years in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, field training, sales enablement and account management, preferably within a remote/regional structure.
3+ years demonstrated experience leading deliverables across a remote team, and can quickly organize functional teams to design and develop learning projects.
Instructional Design: Deep understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM).
Exceptional presentation, communication, and virtual/in-person facilitation skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
High proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and virtual training platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
Travel
Up to 50% regional/home office travel required to conduct in-person training, ride-alongs, and regional meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
Self-Motivated: Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding goals and objectives.
Data-Driven: Previous experience in completing & implementing attainable business plans.
Collaborative: Strong relationship-builder capable of earning trust and credibility with both field teams and home office stakeholders.
Adaptabile: Comfortable navigating ambiguity and quickly adapting training content and delivery methods based on changing business needs.

This is a field-based position. Overnight travel may be required. This position requires significant driving of either a company provided or personal vehicle as well as prolonged periods of sitting, both of which are part of the essential duties and responsibilities of the role. As a result, Genentech, Inc. (Company) from time to time will check your motor vehicle record for purposes of determining your eligibility for driving a Company vehicle or driving any vehicle on Company business.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $140,300 - $260,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
