Summary:

The Assistant Site Manager serves as a leadership presence for all overnight operations within the facility. This position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing production, sanitation/janitorial, and A-feed operations during the night shift to ensure all activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with customer requirements, quality standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

This role acts as the primary point of accountability for overnight operations and serves as the key liaison between departmental supervisors, facility leadership, and client representatives working during the night shift. The position ensures seamless communication, effective problem resolution, and operational continuity across departments while maintaining productivity, quality, safety, and service standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership and oversight for all night shift operations, including production, sanitation/janitorial services, and A-feed operations.
  • Ensure all departments operate effectively and in accordance with established schedules, client expectations, quality standards, and operating procedures.
  • Monitor operational performance throughout the shift and proactively address production, staffing, quality, safety, or service concerns.
  • Coordinate resources across departments to minimize downtime and maintain uninterrupted operations.
  • Ensure all operational activities support daily production targets and facility objectives.
  • Conduct routine operational reviews of all departments throughout the shift.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Serve as the central communication point for all overnight operational activities.
  • Receive operational updates from production supervisors, sanitation/janitorial supervisors, and A-feed supervisors.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between departments to ensure operational alignment and smooth handoffs.
  • Resolve conflicts, resource constraints, scheduling issues, and operational bottlenecks in real time.
  • Communicate significant issues, incidents, and operational risks to the Site Manager and leadership team.

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary company representative for client personnel working during the night shift.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with client representatives and stakeholders.
  • Address client concerns, service issues, and operational requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all customer-specific operating procedures and service expectations.
  • Escalate significant customer issues to facility leadership when appropriate.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance

  • Promote and enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, GMPs, HACCP programs, food safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and customer safety protocols.
  • Lead response efforts for safety incidents, emergencies, equipment failures, and operational disruptions occurring during the night shift.
  • Conduct safety observations, facility inspections, and operational audits.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly when deficiencies are identified.

Workforce Leadership

  • Provide leadership and direction to departmental night supervisors and frontline management.
  • Coach and mentor supervisors to improve leadership effectiveness and operational performance.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels are maintained throughout the shift.
  • Participate in employee relations matters, conflict resolution, and disciplinary processes consistent with company policies.
  • Promote employee engagement, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Quality and Performance Management

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, production, and quality standards.
  • Monitor key operational metrics, including productivity, labor utilization, downtime, quality performance, safety performance, and service delivery standards.
  • Investigate operational issues and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, standardization, and operational efficiencies.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Prepare and communicate comprehensive shift reports summarizing operational performance, production results, sanitation completion status, staffing challenges, safety incidents, customer concerns, and corrective actions taken.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and documentation.
  • Conduct shift transition meetings and ensure effective communication between shifts.

Emergency Response and Decision-Making

  • Serve as the senior decision-maker for overnight operational matters.
  • Respond to equipment failures, staffing shortages, production interruptions, food safety concerns, and customer escalations.
  • Coordinate emergency response activities and communicate issues to senior leadership as required.
  • Make real-time operational decisions to protect employee safety, product quality, customer satisfaction, and operational continuity.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of operations leadership experience within food manufacturing environments.
  • 3+ years of multi-department/cross-functional leadership experience within food manufacturing environments.
  • Experience managing client relationships and customer-facing operations preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple operational functions simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of food safety, production and sanitation programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
