How you'll make an impact

Gallagher Bassett is seeking an innovative and forward-thinking Data Technology Architect to help shape the next generation of enterprise data capabilities supporting claims, risk management, analytics, and artificial intelligence initiatives. 

This role is ideal for an architect who enjoys solving complex business problems through modern data platforms, cloud technologies, and AI-enabled solutions. You will partner with business stakeholders, application teams, data engineers, AI engineers, and enterprise architects to build scalable, trusted, and reusable data assets that accelerate digital transformation. 

Unlike traditional data architecture roles focused primarily on databases and reporting, this position will help design data foundations that power analytics, intelligent automation, machine learning, generative AI, and future business capabilities. 

 

Data Platform Architecture 

  • Design and evolve enterprise data platform architectures supporting operational, analytical, and AI workloads. 
  • Define architecture standards for Azure-based data solutions, including ingestion, processing, storage, governance, and consumption. 
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend platform improvements that increase scalability, resilience, and speed of delivery. 
  • Create reusable reference architectures and implementation patterns for enterprise adoption. 

Cloud & Modern Data Technologies 

  • Design solutions utilizing technologies such as: 
  • Microsoft Azure 
  • Microsoft Fabric 
  • Azure Data Lake 
  • Databricks 
  • Snowflake 
  • Cosmos DB 
  • Event Hub 
  • Kafka 
  • API Management 
  • Partner with engineering teams to modernize legacy data platforms and data movement solutions. 
  • Establish architecture patterns for hybrid cloud and cloud-native environments. 

AI & Intelligent Automation Enablement 

  • Help establish the technology foundations required for: 
  • Generative AI 
  • Agentic AI 
  • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) 
  • Knowledge discovery 
  • Intelligent automation 
  • Collaborate with architecture and AI teams to improve enterprise data accessibility, discoverability, and trustworthiness. 
  • Define architectural patterns supporting AI-ready data ecosystems. 

Technology Optimization & Modernization 

  • Identify opportunities to retire legacy technologies and simplify architecture. 
  • Develop modernization roadmaps supporting strategic business initiatives. 
  • Partner with application teams to improve scalability, maintainability, and operational efficiency. 
  • Contribute to enterprise architecture standards and technology governance processes. 

Architecture Leadership 

  • Participate in architecture reviews and solution design workshops. 
  • Influence technology decisions across multiple programs and portfolios. 
  • Mentor engineers and solution teams on modernization approaches and architecture best practices. 
  • Serve as a trusted technical advisor for data and platform-related initiatives. 

About You

Required:
      • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or equivalent experience.

  • 7+ years of experience in Data Architecture, Solution Architecture, Data Engineering, or Platform Architecture. 
  • Experience designing enterprise-scale cloud solutions. 
  • Experience supporting digital transformation and modernization initiatives. 
  • Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and distributed systems. 

Technical Expertise 

Strong experience in at least 4 of the following: 

  • Azure Cloud Services 
  • Microsoft Fabric 
  • Databricks 
  • Snowflake 
  • Data Lakes and Lakehouse Architectures 
  • API Architecture 
  • Event-Driven Architecture 
  • Streaming Technologies 
  • Data Integration Platforms 
  • SQL and Data Engineering 
  • DevOps and CI/CD Practices 
  • Data Governance Technologies 

Preferred Qualifications 

Experience with: 

  • AI and Machine Learning platforms 
  • Vector databases 
  • Semantic search technologies 
  • Graph databases 
  • Intelligent automation platforms 
  • Enterprise architecture methodologies 
  • Insurance, claims, healthcare, or financial services industries
