Job Summary/Description:

Are you the kind of person who actually loves mornings? (Or at least knows how to fake it really well with a strong cup of coffee?) WHSV-TV in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley is looking for a high-energy, digital-first storyteller to join our award-winning "Daybreak" team. As our "New This Morning" Reporter, you won't just be reading the news; you'll be the first voice our viewers hear, setting the tone for their day across TV, social media, and our growing streaming platforms.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Own the morning: Produce and anchor our "New This Morning" segment in our Daybreak newscasts, which air live from 5 a.m. - 7 a.m., delivering the most critical overnight updates with urgency and personality. You should have the ability to break down longer-form national stories into "snackable" segments on "Daybreak."
- Lead the stream: Take the center seat by anchoring your own dedicated streaming morning show, Daybreak+, reaching our audience wherever they are watching.
- Drive digital engagement: Don’t just wait for the 5:00 a.m. hit—engage our followers on social and digital platforms as news breaks overnight.
- Craft compelling stories: Shoot, write, edit, and present content that is conversational, informative, and visually engaging for a multi-platform world. You'll put a story together during the second half of your day that will air the following day for "Daybreak."
- Collaborate with the best: Work side-by-side with our "Daybreak" producer/anchor and meteorologist to ensure our morning coverage is seamless and superior.
- Represent an award-winning team: Uphold the standards of a station recently named a finalist for "Outstanding News Operation of the Virginias."
- Be the back-up: Fill in on producing and anchoring the newscast when our primary producer/anchor is out.

Qualifications/Requirements:

- A morning-person mindset: You’re ready to hit the ground running at 3:30 AM with a positive attitude and a sense of urgency.
- Digital-first DNA: You understand that news happens on phones and tablets just as much as on TVs, and you’re comfortable navigating both.
- Anchoring ambition: You have the presence and confidence to lead a live streaming show and connect authentically with a digital audience.J
- Journalistic chops: A degree in journalism or communications (or equivalent experience) and at least one year of newsroom experience is preferred.
- Technical versatility: You’re comfortable with basic editing and digital posting tools—or you’re a fast learner who’s ready to dive in.
- Community heart: You care about the Shenandoah Valley and want to tell stories that matter to the people who live here.
