POSITION SUMMARY
Working under the general supervision of the Substation Foreman, the Substation Technician will work to maintain and perform repairs, modifications, replacements, and installation of a wide variety of electrical equipment and electronic equipment systems while meeting the quality standards of Forbes Bros. Ltd, ensuring work meets both external and internal requirements, including legal compliance and customer expectations.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety & Compliance
- Emulates Forbes Bros core value of 'WE WORK SAFE' in all daily tasks
- Work safely while assisting in new and/or existing construction and various tasks such as demolition, site preparation, excavating, backfilling, trenching, pole setting, cable leading, and other substation-related tasks such as construction clean-up.
- Read and understand systems maps to become knowledgeable in general electric distraction system layout, system substation capacities and load areas, substation circuit feeds, and general system sectionalizing.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist with installing transformer and transformer banks, bus structures and switchgear, lines (underground/overhead), ground grid, control buildings, and other related substation material tasks.
- Work with man baskets, skid steers, shovels, compactors, backhoes, and other industry equipment.
- Frequently work around energized high-voltage systems requiring skill and care.
- Understands and complies with Forbes’ Code of Conduct and Respect in the Workplace Policy.
- Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of substation experience, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment and electronic equipment systems and/or two (2) years of heavy electrical/industrial experience.
- Experience using hand tools, small power tools, shop machines, and heavy equipment.
- OSHA 10 and/or 30
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work within a physically demanding work environment.
- Ability to pass a background check, and drug and alcohol tests.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid CDL.
- Ability to carry and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to establish strong working relationships
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
