POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, the Field Mechanic maintains, repairs and overhauls heavy vehicles and industrial equipment at our powerline construction project sites. This is a unionized Class 5 position governed by the applicable collective agreement between the Electrical Power Systems Construction Association (EPSCA) and the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 793.

Core Responsibilities

Field Safety Leadership & Compliance

  • Troubleshoot, maintain and repair mechanical and hydraulic systems and components on a variety of equipment including but not limited to tractor-trailer units and large commercial vehicles.
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance tasks and inspections
  • Assist with troubleshooting of electrical systems and components
  • Maintain service truck and keep stocked with tools and spare parts
  • Assist with the start-up and commissioning of new project sites
  • Maintain shop tools and work area
  • May be required to perform duties outside of normal responsibilities from time to time, as needed

Training & Documentation Management

  • Vehicle documentation is correct and all documentation is in place before vehicle or equipment is issued
  • Creating and updating work orders within Viewpoint/Sent to Fleet Manager
  • Maintain all service truck log books/Tailboards/Safety paperwork
  • Ensure FBL Fleet meets all regulatory requirements

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance tasks and inspections
  • Work safely and contribute to safety improvement initiatives

Essential requirements

Education & Experience

  • Minimum three (3) – five (5) years’ experience in the Powerline Industry
  • Good knowledge of Federal and Provincial regulations
  • Heavy Equipment Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician- Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic (Off Road), Heavy Equipment Technician – Truck and Transport Mechanic. Red Seal Endorsement considered an asset

Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel
  • Work safely and ability to recognize safety hazards and implement hierarchy of controls to eliminate hazards on site or in office
  • Strong listening, problem solving and time management skills with the ability to meet various deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written skills with the ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Ability to work with independently or within a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual labour in varying weather conditions and environments, inclusive of heavy lifting

Additional Details 

This position is field based - requiring candidates to:

  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s licence and an acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Be available to travel regularly and work at project sites throughout Ontario.
  • Satisfy all applicable project and site-access requirements, which may include drug and alcohol testing where legally permitted.
  • Be willing and able to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions.
  • Become and remain a member in good standing of IUOE Local 793, as required under the applicable collective agreement.

The range shown is the expected base pay range for this role. Final compensation will be determined based on role requirements, experience, qualifications, work location, applicable project/site requirements, internal equity, and any applicable collective agreement or union requirements.

This range does not include overtime, premiums, per diem / LOA, bonuses, benefits, or other forms of compensation unless specifically stated in the job posting.

Base Pay Range
$51.53$51.53 CAD
