Construction Safety Advisor – Utility Infrastructure

POSITION SUMMARY
The Safety Advisor is a field-based role supporting active utility construction projects across the United States. This position works directly with field supervision and crews to identify hazards, reinforce safe work practices, and support execution of work in compliance with OSHA, client requirements, and company safety standards.
This role requires consistent presence on active job sites and the ability to influence safety performance in real-time construction environments.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Safety Execution
- Conduct regular site inspections and field observations on active construction sites
- Identify hazards and work directly with crews and supervision to correct them
- Support development and execution of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) tied to current work activities
- Lead and participate in toolbox talks focused on site-specific risks
- Monitor work activities to ensure safe execution without unnecessary disruption
Incident Management
- Participate in incident and near-miss investigations
- Support root cause identification and implementation of corrective actions
- Ensure learnings are communicated and applied in the field
Training & Compliance
- Support onboarding and site safety orientations for new workers and subcontractors
- Track and verify required training (OSHA, First Aid, Fall Protection, etc.)
- Maintain accurate field-level safety documentation and inspection records
- Support internal and client audits and follow through on corrective actions
Collaboration
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen to reduce risk exposure
- Provide practical recommendations to improve safety performance in active work environments
- Support continuous improvement of field safety practices
Required Experience
- Minimum 5 years of safety experience in construction environments
- Direct exposure to utility construction (transmission, distribution, or substations) strongly preferred
- Experience working on active job sites alongside crews and supervision
- Involvement in field inspections, hazard identification, and incident investigations
Required Skills & Abilities
- Ability to work effectively in active, fast-paced construction environments
- Strong communication skills with field crews and supervision
- Ability to identify risks and provide practical, field-applicable solutions
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards
- Proficient with basic reporting tools and safety management systems
Certifications & Requirements
- OSHA 10 or 30 (preferred)
- First Aid / CPR (preferred)
- Fall Protection training (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license
- Willingness and ability to travel between project sites
Work Environment
- Field-based role working on active construction sites
- Exposure to outdoor conditions, heavy equipment, and physically active environments
- Travel required based on project needs
