SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Engineer I is responsible for the technical oversight, optimization, and validation of manufacturing processes. This role focuses on improving process capability, reducting quality defects, developing standardized work methods, validating tooling and fixturing, and ensureing products are manufactured safely and efficiently. The Manufacturing Engineer utilizes Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, and continuous improvement principles to improve quality, throughput, and operational performance. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Conduct daily shop floor Gemba walks to identify safety, quality, and process improvement opportunities.
  • Provide engineering support during incident investigations, documenting root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Validate workstations for ergonomic compliance and proper use of PPE, ensuring processes meet OSHA and internal safety standards.
  • Collaborate with operators, technicians, inspectors, maintenance personnel, and Quality Engineering to ensure product conformance and process control requirements are met.
  • Audit manufacturing operations for adherence to approved work instructions, process parameters, and operating procedures.
  • Support nonconformance investigations by analyzing defect trends and implementing corrective actions to reduce recurrence.
  • Actively identify, document, and reduce Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) through process improvements and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Develop and implement improvements to part preparation, deburring, assembly, fixturing, tooling, material handling, and manufacturing methods to improve process repeatability and product quality.
  • Provide timely engineering support to resolve production issues including equipment limitations, quality concerns, process deviations, tooling deficiencies, and material handling challenges.
  • Partner with Production Leads and Supervisors to improve workflow, material movement, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Analyze cycle time variation and implement improvements to support production goals and on-time delivery requirements.
  • Design and improve fixtures, tooling, racks, templates, gauges, and process aids using SolidWorks to improve safety, ergonomics, product quality, and productivity.
  • Develop, maintain, and revise process documentation, work instructions, process flow diagrams, visual aids, and standard operating procedures.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 6S methodologies.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent combination of technical education and related experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or continuous improvement role.
  • Proven experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies (DMAIC), process optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling, fixturing, assembly methods, material handling, and process controls.
  • Experience developing work instructions, process documentation, and manufacturing standards.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with operators, technicians, vendors, and management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS WHILE PERFORMING THE JOB:

  • Sitting for long periods of time, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, use hands to finger, handle, or feel parts; reach with hands and arms; and talk and/or hear instructions.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to differentiate shades and color to identify defects.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB:

  • Low noise levels in office environment.
  • Occasional moderate noise levels and working near moving mechanical parts.
  • Fast paced.
