CNC Machinist I

Location: 2635 E. Magnolia Street, Phoenix, AZ
DESCRIPTION:
The CNC Machinist will perform accurate and timely set-ups utilizing CNC mill or lathe machining centers. Proficient in accurate change-over of machine set-ups. Ensure conformance to customer requirements using calibrated measuring equipment and visual inspection. Record and comprehend company work instructions and set-up books.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Setup and operate CNC lathe or mill for production operation.
- Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as needed.
- Responsible for DNC communications, downloading tool programs.
- Inspect and measure parts according to set-up book inspection callouts.
- Monitor and replace tools in accordance with tool life management system, document all tool changes.
- Ensure company procedures and “best machining practices” are being followed.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
- Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices.
EDEUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 5 years CNC experience in a manufacturing environment; OR,
- 2 years CNC experience in a manufacturing environment with certificates of completion for machining levels 1 & 2 and an Associates of Applied Science in Manufacturing and Production Technology.
- Demonstrated ability at operating CNC Machines and interpreting G & M codes.
- Changing cutting tools and accurately adjusting offsets.
- Ability to set-up jobs independently.
- Ability to read part drawings, apply GD&T concepts and rules to understand geometric requirements.
- Ability to correctly use and interpret measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, thread gages, chamfer gages, pin gage, test indicators, drop indicators, height gages, optical comparators.
- Implement 6S concepts.
- Basic computer skills: Excel, Word, Outlook.
- Knowledgeable in Lean Manufacturing preferred.
- Visual inspection experience preferred.
- Detail oriented and strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS WHILE PERFORMING THE JOB:
- Standing for long periods of time, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, use hands to finger, handle, or feel parts; reaching with hands and arms and overhead; talking and/or hearing instructions and sounds.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to differentiate shades and color to identify coating defects.
- Near acuity and accommodation are required for reading dial and digital gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of coating operations.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB:
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
- High noise levels from operating machines.
- Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts.
- The employee will be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent exposure to hazardous materials commonly used in a manufacturing environment.
