The Fiber Maintenance Technician will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our outside plant (OSP) network across Texas. Acting as the single point of contact for all OSP maintenance activities within the assigned work zone, this position is responsible for responding to and managing fiber outages, coordinating internal and external resources, and driving timely restoration of services. The technician will also oversee preventive maintenance, track performance metrics, and ensure compliance with company standards and customer expectations.

Essential Job Functions

  • Manage and maintain the fiber network to maximize reliability, minimize downtime, and achieve company and customer satisfaction goals.
  • Lead all outage response and maintenance activities within the assigned work zone, ensuring assets are restored safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 coverage for emergency maintenance needs.
  • Track, analyze, and report all maintenance activities and associated costs to support operational performance and budget management.
  • Provide back-office support by leveraging 3GIS, FMS, and other diagnostic tools to identify and resolve network issues based on ISP, NOC, or customer-provided OTDR readings.
  • Partner with construction, engineering, and network operations teams to support process improvements, preventive maintenance, and long-term network reliability initiatives.

Requirements

  • 5 years of Telecom OSP Construction
  • Fiber Splicing: testing & isolation
  • Proficient w/PCs, Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Project, etc)
  • Current valid driver’s license
  • Travel throughout Texas

Preferred Requirements

  • Ability to understand mapping programs and key identifiers in a fiber optic network, read and utilize GPS units and record network positioning
  • Strong negotiation skills as we continue to streamline our OSP vendor list
  • Knowledge of “Call Before You Dig” rules and regulations as they apply to a network utility provider
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety rules and regulations as they apply to locating and providing repair and maintenance within a fiber optic network

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, kneel and reach
  • Must be able to speak, write, read, and understand English
  • Must have visual acuity
  • Must be able to lift 0-25 pounds
