I.P. - Technology Transactions (Life Sciences) Associate
About this role
Fenwick & West handles complex technology transactions for leading life sciences and technology companies, closely collaborating with our corporate and life sciences patent prosecution practices. We are seeking an associate with 2-4 years of licensing, collaboration, and commercial partnering transactions experience to join our growing life sciences technology transactions team. The ideal candidate will represent biotechs and big pharmas as they license patents and collaborate to advance therapeutics, vaccines, diagnostics, and digital health technologies through clinical trials toward regulatory approval.
What youll do
- Negotiate and structure licensing, collaboration, and commercialization transactions for life sciences technologies.
- Advise founders and cross-functional teams through complex standalone commercial deals.
- Coordinate with Fenwick & West’s corporate group and life sciences patent prosecution practice to align deal strategy.
- Counsel clients on commercial and regulatory implications during deal diligence, drafting, and closing.
- Represent biotechs and big pharmas in licensing and partnering discussions to advance clinical programs toward FDA approval.
What Fenwick & West is looking for
- 2-4 years of licensing, collaboration, and commercial partnering transaction experience in a law firm.
- Substantial law firm experience representing biotechs and big pharmas in licensing patents and collaborations.
- Experience with AI-native or AI-driven biotechnology companies—particularly integrating AI/ML into drug discovery, diagnostics, or life sciences R&D is a plus.
- Barred in the state of the office applying or eligible to waive into the next bar exam.
- Strong academic credentials and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
