Plumbing Draftsman – Job Description
A Plumbing Draftsman is responsible for preparing detailed plumbing drawings and layouts for residential, commercial, industrial, and high-rise building projects. The role involves creating accurate shop drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built drawings in accordance with project specifications, local authority regulations, and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed plumbing shop drawings, coordination drawings, and as-built drawings using AutoCAD and other drafting software.
- Develop water supply, drainage, stormwater, sewage, and irrigation layouts based on approved designs.
- Coordinate plumbing drawings with architectural, structural, HVAC, electrical, and fire protection disciplines.
- Ensure drawings comply with local authority regulations, project specifications, and applicable plumbing codes.
- Review consultant drawings and prepare detailed fabrication and installation drawings.
- Modify and update drawings based on consultant comments and site requirements.
- Prepare material take-offs (MTO) and support quantity estimation.
- Assist project engineers and site teams by providing technical drawing support.
- Maintain drawing revisions, documentation, and project records.
- Attend coordination meetings and resolve drawing-related issues.
Required Skills:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (mandatory).
- Knowledge of plumbing systems, water supply, drainage, sewerage, stormwater, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with local authority standards and plumbing codes.
- Strong coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5+ years of experience as a Plumbing Draftsman in MEP or construction projects.
- Experience in residential, commercial, high-rise, and industrial building projects.
- Knowledge of Revit MEP or BIM software is an added advantage.
