Counsel
About this role
Summary:
Cosm's legal team is looking for a sharp, commercially minded attorney who wants to be in the room where deals get done. This is a generalist role with a transactional core: you will support the full breadth of Cosm's business operations, from vendor and customer agreements to strategic partnerships and content deals. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with business teams across the company, and beyond, participating in strategic planning and decision-making to align legal strategies with business objectives. You are energized by variety, comfortable with ambiguity, and motivated by the chance to shape a company's commercial playbook during a period of rapid growth.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, customer agreements, partnership agreements, content distribution deals, and intellectual property licenses.
- Provide legal guidance and support across all divisions of the company, including Sports and Entertainment, Science and Education, and Parks and Attractions.
- Structure and support corporate transactions, including strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and commercial collaborations that directly drive Cosm's expansion.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external business partners, collaborating with departments such as Product, Venues, Technology, Accounting, Finance, and Customer Service to identify and resolve issues proactively.
- Develop, improve, and maintain contract templates, playbooks, and internal legal processes to increase efficiency and reduce cycle times, helping the business move faster without increasing risk.
- Assist in developing and implementing company policies and procedures to support compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Provide legal training and practical guidance to business teams, building a culture of smart risk-taking and commercial awareness across the organization.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in California (or eligibility for registered in-house counsel status).
- 3 to 5 years of corporate and transactional experience, ideally from a major law firm or in-house at a technology, media, or entertainment company, with meaningful exposure to commercial contracts.
- Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable business guidance.
- Familiarity with intellectual property licensing, SaaS/technology agreements, or content distribution arrangements.
- AI-native and frontier-minded, with genuine fluency in using emerging technologies to work faster and more effectively.
- High agency and a strong commercial instinct, with a bias toward action and ownership.
Location and Work Arrangements:
This position is based near Cosm's El Segundo office. Cosm values in-person collaboration, and the role may require regular presence at the El Segundo office along with flexibility for occasional travel to other Cosm locations.
The annualized base salary range for this position in California is $140,000 to $195,000. The base salary offered will factor in internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience, among other factors.
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment. This requirement is in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local labor laws. Cosm is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
