Job Description

This is a full-time remote position that can be located anywhere in the U.S

We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Architect to lead our post-migration modernization efforts. This role will design scalable, resilient cloud-native architectures, drive adoption of AI/ML capabilities, and establish governance frameworks that align the organization around cloud best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and evolve cloud-native architectures leveraging AWS services (ECS/EKS, Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, EventBridge, etc.) to modernize legacy workloads.
  • Define and enforce architectural standards, design patterns, and governance best practices (Well-Architected Framework, landing zones, guardrails).
  • Identify and implement AI/ML opportunities using AWS AI services (Bedrock, SageMaker, Q) to improve system performance, automation, and decision-making.
  • Guide engineering teams on cloud patterns, conduct architecture reviews, and mentor staff on AWS services and modernization approaches.
  • Align cross-functional stakeholders around a unified cloud strategy, governance model, and technology roadmap.
  • Drive cost optimization, security posture, and operational excellence across the AWS environment.
  • Evaluate emerging AWS services and industry trends; recommend adoption where business value is clear.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years in cloud architecture or senior engineering roles, with 4+ years focused on AWS.
  • Deep expertise in AWS compute, networking, storage, data, and security services.
  • AWS Solutions Architect Professional certification (or equivalent demonstrated experience).
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML services and how to integrate them into enterprise systems.
  • Strong understanding of cloud governance, FinOps, and security frameworks.
  • Proven ability to influence without authority — aligning teams around architectural decisions and standards.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to translate complex technical concepts for executive and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional AWS certifications (DevOps Engineer, Security Specialty, Machine Learning Specialty).
  • Experience with containerization, microservices, and event-driven architectures at scale.
  • Background in insurance, financial services, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with generative AI patterns (RAG, prompt engineering, agent frameworks) and their enterprise applications.
