Development Engineer - Internal Flow and Heat Transfer (m/f/d)

This position is classified as Core Job Engineer IV and assigned to Pay Grade 7.

 

Your Responsibilities

  • Further develop the toolchain for thermal simulations and perform thermal simulations of relevant generator, e-nacelle, and other wind turbine components using CFD within the product development process.
  • Validate simulation processes using measurement data.
  • Develop concepts and recommendations for optimized airflow management and thermal management.
  • Develop parametric models of wind turbine components, such as LVD cabinets, CBS cabinets, generators, and related systems.
  • Build surrogate models for specific wind turbine components.
  • Lead cross-functional, product-related technology development projects.

 

Your Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Process Engineering, Physics, or a comparable field (Dipl.-Ing. or M.Sc.), with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience, or a PhD.
  • Experience in CFD simulations of internal flow and heat transfer using OpenFOAM, as well as in the development of cooling concepts for e-nacelles, generators, electrical cabinets, and other components.
  • Programming skills in Python and experience with version control systems (Git, SVN).
  • Proven track record in technical project leadership or work package leadership within wind turbine component projects or in technology, methodology, or tool development.
  • Ability to solve technical challenges quickly and efficiently.
  • Willingness to drive technology development for alternative drivetrain systems.
  • A strong team player who naturally leads, mentors, and shares knowledge with team members and stakeholders, supported by excellent communication skills.
