Summary

The Shop Foreman is responsible for monitoring and assisting the Branch Manager in the daily shop operations and participating in the maintenance and repair of owned vehicles and equipment, ensuring that the technicians perform their duties to address customers' needs. They oversee equipment maintenance and ensure the efficiency of operations in the shop. The Shop Foreman anticipates and addresses hindrances to operational efficiency; provides problem-solving solutions to customers; provides technical guidance and training to subordinates; inspects/operates vehicles and equipment to diagnose problems; troubleshoots to determine repairs needed; interprets complex schematic diagrams; and maintains parts inventory. In this role, the Foreman is hands-on and coordinates daily service operations, reviews work orders on the job, checks the progress of repairs and service, ensures compliance, addresses customers' inquiries and complaints, and trains new employees. This role assists and mentors service technicians at various maintenance, repair, and rental preparation levels, ensuring operational efficiency and the work is completed effectively.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Inspect equipment for general safety requirements, repairs needed and maintain equipment and vehicles to the manufacturer’s specifications.
Troubleshoot and diagnose complex issues or problems with heavy equipment powertrain, and hydraulic and electrical systems using a computer analyzer to determine repairs needed.
Complete preventative maintenance tasks for equipment and vehicles such as changing filters, checking fluids, and filling tires.
Help supervise and participate in the daily maintenance and repair of a large number of owned cars, trucks, heavy equipment, small engine equipment, mowers, etc.
Prioritizes order of equipment repair based upon business needs/demands.
Assist and provide technical expertise and guidance to technicians with the needed information including but not limited to schematics, inspection forms, work orders, and service bulletins.
Maintain and prepare reports.
Performs administrative duties such as ensuring proper documentation of work orders, maintaining daily equipment logs, and submitting manufacturer warranties.
Establish and maintain vehicle and equipment operating and maintenance records.
Train, supervise, and evaluate subordinates.
Provide technical assistance in work problems encountered at the shop.
Make recommendations for replacement items.
Mentor newly hired employees on heavy equipment, maintenance, diagnostics, servicing, and repair to ensure compliance and rental preparation of all equipment needs.
Collaborates with the Branch Manager to support operations and assist in optimizing shop workflow for operational efficiency.
Educates technicians on proper safe work practices and PPE use for heavy equipment
Partners with vendors and suppliers to effectively manage and budget for equipment repairs.
Ensures the workshop keep up by promoting a safe, clean, and organized working environment for both technicians and customers
Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills to improve shop operations.
Assists customers with questions/customer service as applicable.
Maintains a safe work environment.

Job Requirements

Over 5 years of experience in the heavy equipment industry/construction is preferred.
A Valid Driver’s License and the Ability to Drive Company Vehicles per Insurance requirements may be required on a case-by-case basis, depending on branch needs.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, manufacturers, vendors, and subordinates
Knowledge of heavy equipment operation, maintenance and repair, powertrain components, including engines, transmissions, and drivetrains.
Extensive knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
Strong mechanical knowledge and understanding of heavy equipment, hydraulic and electrical systems
Proficient in diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical issues or problem.
Ability to interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Maintain records and inventories.
Ability to train and supervise the work of subordinates.
Excellent Customer Service Skills – for both internal and external customers.
Exhibits average computer skills.
Maintains a ready line and achieves quality standards.
Must have own tools.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
