Laser Programmer
About this role
Elmira Stamping & Manufacturing is seeking a detail-oriented Laser Programmer to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with CAD/CAM technology, solving manufacturing challenges, and seeing their work go directly from the computer to the production floor.
The Laser Programmer is responsible for preparing and optimizing programs for our CNC laser cutting equipment. This includes working from customer drawings and part files, creating efficient material layouts, preparing cutting programs, and working closely with the production team to ensure parts are produced accurately and efficiently.
Position Responsibilities
- Create and modify CNC laser cutting programs using CAD/CAM and nesting software.
- Review customer drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure parts are programmed correctly.
- Nest parts efficiently to maximize material utilization and minimize scrap.
- Prepare programs based on material type, thickness, quantity, and production requirements.
- Review programs for accuracy before releasing them to production.
- Work closely with laser operators and production personnel to troubleshoot programming or cutting issues.
- Make program adjustments as needed to improve part quality, cutting efficiency, and material usage.
- Maintain organized programming files and part information.
- Help identify opportunities to improve programming and fabrication processes.
- Work with Production and other departments to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
- Follow all company quality and safety procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience with laser programming, CNC programming, or CAD/CAM preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications.
- Experience with CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and nesting/CAM software is preferred.
- Strong understanding of sheet metal materials, thicknesses, and cutting characteristics
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.
- Manufacturing or fabrication experience is highly valued.
A degree is not required. We value hands-on manufacturing experience, technical aptitude, and the ability to learn.
What We Offer
$22.00–$26.00 per hour
Compensation will be based on the selected candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
