POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant performs a variety of professional-level accounting duties involved in preparing, maintaining, analyzing, verifying, and reconciling financial transactions, statements, records, and reports across Elmington Living's residential real estate portfolio. This position is responsible for maintaining the accuracy of ledgers and financial systems as well as supporting the preparation of assigned budgets, the annual audit, and year-end closing.
Elmington Living is comprised of multiple communities, each operated with its own income, expenses, debt, and bottom line. The Staff Accountant plays a direct role in optimizing the financial performance of the properties they support, working closely with the Director of Accounting and property teams to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and reclasses
- Maintain the general ledger for an assigned property portfolio
- Summarizes financial activity by gathering information and prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports)
- Support month-end and year-end close processes
- Verifies financial transactions by reviewing supporting documents
- Perform bank and balance sheet account reconciliations
- Monitor property-level cash balances and manage reserve/security deposit accounts
- Verifies documentation and requests disbursements to prepare payments
- Communicates proactively with property teams, other support teams and the Director of Accounting to resolve discrepancies and meet deadlines
- Protects financial information by following internal controls
- Performs other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Financial management and reporting
- Understanding of GAAP fundamentals
- Technical capacity, including proficiency in Sage Intacct Software preferred
- Ethical conduct
- Communication proficiency
- Time management
SPECIFIC EDUCATION OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required (or a business degree with relatable experience)
- CPA certification not required
- Prior accounting experience in multifamily or residential real estate preferred, but not required

- Vision abilities to include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Temperature in the workplace is typically moderate.
