Start Elevator, a fast-growing leader in the elevator services industry, is seeking a Modernization Adjuster / Supervisor to support our expanding operations in the New York and New Jersey markets.
Job Summary
This is a highly skilled, field-based role responsible for the final adjustment, commissioning, and performance of elevator modernization projects. This position plays a critical part in ensuring systems are safe, code-compliant, and operating at peak performance.
If you have strong experience in modernization, controller work, and troubleshooting, this is an opportunity to work on complex, high-profile equipment in one of the most demanding markets in the country.
Responsibilities and Duties
Key Responsibilities
- Perform final adjustment, startup, and commissioning of modernized elevator systems
- Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, and control system issues
- Tune controllers, door operators, and ride quality to meet performance standards
- Support installation teams and coordinate with mechanics, foremen, and project managers
- Conduct Category testing and acceptance testing in accordance with NY/NJ code requirements
- Ensure all work complies with:
- New York (NYC DOB / NYS) regulations
- New Jersey Elevator Safety regulations
- ASME A17.1 codes
- Interface with inspectors and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Maintain a high standard of safety, quality, and workmanship on all job sites
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Elevator Mechanic License (NY and/or NJ preferred)
- 5+ years of elevator industry experience
- Strong modernization and adjustment experience
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics
- Advanced troubleshooting skills
Preferred
- Experience as an Adjuster, Modernization Mechanic, or Lead Mechanic
- Experience with major OEM and non-proprietary controllers (Otis, Schindler, TK, KONE, GAL, etc.)
- CET Certification
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in elevator shafts, pits, and mechanical rooms
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Ability to lift 75+ lbs. and handle tools/equipment
- Ability to work in construction and industrial environments
