Overview

Element Edmonton has an opportunity for a Receiving and Prep Technician to join our rapidly expanding team. As a member of the operations team in one of the various laboratories across Element, the Receiving and Prep Technician position performs a variety of routine and non-routine testing assignments within the department assigned and insures timely and accurate test results under direct supervision.  The technician positions must be proficient in a number of core business skills including but not limited to compliance to established safety rules, code of conduct, and company policies and procedures.

 

This is a seasonal position scheduled to end on 31 December 2026

 

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and log client samples in accordance with company Quality Management System (QMS), Safety Manual, and established standard operating procedures.
  • Verify sample integrity, documentation, chain of custody, and client requirements upon receipt.
  • Accurately enter sample information, test requests, and related data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Prepare client orders and sample submissions for laboratory testing while ensuring accuracy and adherence to established procedures.
  • Label, sort, and organize samples to maintain traceability throughout the testing process.
  • Store and warehouse samples according to specified handling, safety, and retention requirements.
  • Prepare samples for testing using approved preparation methods and laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records of sample receipt, preparation, storage, and disposition.
  • Coordinate sample movement between receiving, storage, preparation, and testing areas.

Skills / Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety
  • HS diploma or GED certificate preferred. College or vocational school coursework welcomed
  • 0-2 years’ experience in a testing related field
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to accurately perform data entry and maintain records.
  • Understanding of quality assurance and safety requirements.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and LIMS software.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to lift and move samples safely in a warehouse or laboratory environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate).
  • Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. on occasion
  • Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift 50+lbs periodically
