Construction Welder / Pipefitter Apprentice

About this role

Duties/Responsibilities

Assist with the fabrication, assembly, fitting, installation, and welding of process

piping, mechanical piping, structural steel, and miscellaneous metal components.


Measure, cut, bevel, thread, fit, and prepare pipe for welding and installation.

Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, piping schematics, weld

symbols, and project specifications.


Perform routine MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and/or Flux-Cored (FCAW) welding tasks

appropriate to experience and skill level.


Assemble and install carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and other piping systems

in accordance with project specifications.


Assist with field installation of piping systems, equipment connections, supports,

hangers, and structural components.


Perform routine fabrication, pipefitting, and welding tasks independently while

seeking guidance on more complex assignments.


Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards, proper fit-up, and project

specifications are met.


Operate welding machines, pipe threading equipment, grinders, saws, cutting

torches, and other fabrication tools safely and effectively.
Maintain accurate documentation of work completed and materials used.

Coordinate with foremen, project managers, and other trades to support project

schedules.


Maintain company tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized

condition.


Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and job site safety

requirements.


Identify and report job site hazards and assist in maintaining a safe work

environment.


Participate in apprenticeship training, technical education, and ongoing

professional development to build welding, fabrication, and pipefitting skills.


Required Skills/Abilities

Basic mechanical aptitude and a strong interest in pursuing a career in welding and

pipefitting.


Ability to read or learn to read blueprints, piping drawings, fabrication drawings, and

weld symbols.


Basic knowledge of welding processes, pipefitting techniques, and fabrication

practices, or a willingness to learn.


Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and pipefitting

tools.


Strong mathematical and measurement skills.

Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while collaborating with the

construction team.


Commitment to producing quality work and maintaining a safe work environment.

Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record preferred.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Enrollment in or completion of a welding, pipefitting, or mechanical trades program

preferred.


Previous construction, manufacturing, fabrication, welding, or pipefitting

experience is a plus but not required.


OSHA 10 certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

AWS welding certification is a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, crouching, and overhead

work.


Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and elevated work platforms.

Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor weather conditions.

Frequent exposure to heat, sparks, noise, dust, and welding fumes while wearing

required PPE.


Must possess the ability to adjust focus for close-up work, with or without

correction.
