Data is Energy

EDF Trading is a data business. Trading is transitioning into a data driven business. High quality data and the agility of the analysis are becoming the differentiator. EDF Trading has a leading footprint in the European energy markets and wants to monetise and optimise data as an asset.

The European energy space is complex and has a huge appetite for data. Power production from renewables in response to weather, capacity limitations across borders, storage optimisation modelling... these are just some of the complex data opportunities we trade on every day.

We’re looking for talented people who share our passion for data to join our team and seize these opportunities with us.

Team / department

The Data team is responsible for providing business solutions aimed at extracting value from large amounts of data. It covers a broad range of activities such as collecting market data and building related analysis tools, processing of real-time data streams, data governance and machine learning.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain data-oriented systems as part of the software development team.
  • Deliver functionality from requirements analysis through implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Participate in Agile development processes and ceremonies as part of ongoing delivery.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and architects on solution design and technical implementation.
  • Produce high-quality, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute constructive feedback to peers.
  • Work with business users and analysts to clarify requirements and support successful delivery.
  • Collaborate with the data support team to ensure platform stability, monitoring, and timely incident resolution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of development processes, tools, and engineering practices.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Commercial experience developing applications using .NET technologies (C#, ASP.NET).
  • Good understanding of software engineering principles and modern development practices.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
  • Understanding of development practices including:
    • Unit and integration testing
    • Dependency Injection (IoC)
    • SOLID principles
    • Application logging, monitoring, and observability
  • Experience developing web applications using Angular or similar frontend frameworks.
  • Experience working with data-intensive applications involving large volumes of data or real-time processing.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and work collaboratively within a development team

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
  • Experience working within Agile development teams (Scrum preferred).
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps (or similar tools) for source control, build pipelines, and work management.
  • Exposure to non-relational database technologies such as ClickHouse or MongoDB.
  • Basic understanding of Kubernetes and container orchestration concepts.
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code technologies such as Terraform.
  • Experience or familiarity with Kafka, Azure Service Bus, or similar messaging technologies.
