Edelman Malaysia – Senior Accountant Role
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Accountant to join our Company. In this role, you will be exposed to the following areas in Finance and Management Accounting: Financial Accounting, Business Law/Contracts, Procurement, Project Accounting, Taxation, and Compliance.

Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records and delivering timely financial reporting, statutory compliance, audit coordination, and business support. This role plays a key part in managing the month-end and year-end closing processes, maintaining compliance with accounting standards and company policies, and partnering with business stakeholders to support operational and financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Revenue Recognition & Project Accounting
- Perform monthly revenue assessment to ensure project revenue and costs are accurately recognised.
- Work closely with Client Finance, Client Leaders and Operations to resolve revenue-related issues.
- Support project profitability analysis and financial performance monitoring.
- Support in RFQ / RFP submission.
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Lead and coordinate the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close process.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, prepayments, provisions, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensure the completeness and accuracy of the general ledger.
- Perform monthly financial analysis and explain significant variances.
- Prepare management reports and support with financial analysis.
Balance Sheet Management
- Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including intercompany balances, fixed assets, receivables, payables, accruals, and provisions.
- Ensure timely clearance of reconciling items and maintain accurate supporting documentation.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and statutory requirements.
- Support tax compliance, including Sales & Services Tax (SST), withholding tax, and corporate tax reporting.
- Maintain effective internal controls and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and strengthen operational controls.
Statutory Reporting & Audit
- Coordinate year-end statutory audit and prepare audit schedules.
- Liaise with external auditors to resolve audit queries and provide supporting documentation.
- Coordinate with the Company Secretary on statutory filings, annual returns, and board resolutions.
- Prepare statutory financial statements in compliance with local accounting standards.
Regional & Global Reporting
- Prepare supplementary reporting packages for Regional and Global Finance.
- Coordinate statutory-to-GAAP reporting and ensure reporting timelines are met.
- Support regional finance requests, reporting submissions, and ad hoc analyses.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Studies and/or Professional Accounting qualifications (ACCA, CA, CPA).
- Minimum 5–7 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in a multinational or professional services environment.
- Strong hands-on experience in full-set accounting and month-end/year-end closing.
- Experience in statutory reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and external audit coordination.
- Good knowledge of Malaysian accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements, including SST, corporate tax, withholding tax (WHT), and stamp duty.
Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in preparing statutory financial statements and regional/global reporting packages.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial reporting skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, PivotTables, and data analysis.
- Fluent in spoken and written English.
