About the Role

The Commercial Officer plays a key role in supporting the delivery of effective procurement and across a broad range of services. Working closely with Commercial Specialists, Commissioners and Contract Managers, the postholder helps ensure a robust commercial approach is applied so that risks are managed appropriately, value for money is achieved, and positive outcomes are delivered for local people.

The postholder works with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, providing analysis, advice and practical support to help services meet their business needs in a compliant and commercially effective way.

This is an important developmental role for someone with strong analytical, organisational and communication skills who is able to manage competing priorities, build effective working relationships and contribute to continuous improvement across the commissioning and procurement function.

About You

To apply for this post, you must have:

  • A degree, MCIPS or other relevant commercial/procurement qualification, or equivalent relevant experience, together with evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Experience of commissioning support, sourcing and/or contract management within a large and complex organisation.
  • A proven ability to build effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and work successfully in a customer-focused environment.
  • Experience of managing multiple workstreams or smaller projects simultaneously, delivering to deadlines and supporting change effectively.
  • Sound knowledge of procurement legislation, policy drivers and risk management, including the Provider Selection Regime.
  • Strong analytical, communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to interpret complex information and present it clearly and succinctly.
  • Well-developed commercial and interpersonal skills, including influencing, negotiation, value for money, and the ability to build credibility with colleagues, partners and suppliers.
