POSITION SUMMARY:
The Database Administrator II is responsible for supporting the mission
critical production, test, and development applications used for campus
administration.
The Database
Administrator II (DBA II) is responsible for supporting Oracle Database
Administration, Apache Tomcat, Banner Administration, and middleware
integrations. Further responsibilities
include support of the data warehouse and ETL processes, troubleshooting errors
generated by in-house or vendor provide software, building and configuring
Banner modules to perform needed functionality according to documented
processes and procedures, assisting with the implementation of new software and
upgrades of existing software, and working with the application team to develop
database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance procedures.
Duties are
performed on a variety of operating systems with a primary focus on Linux and Windows.
The DBA II may be required to work evenings and weekends to ensure proper
administration.
DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts advanced Oracle Database Administration tasks, including database
creation and maintenance, tuning, capacity planning, backup and recovery,
program migrations, and security implementation/enforcement/audit. Provides technical leadership and guidance to
less senior database administrators.
Architects’ high availability systems and implements, documents, and tests
Disaster Recovery solutions. Installs, maintains, and integrates Middle Tier
technologies including Apache Tomcat.
Coordinates with the Project and Portfolio Management Office (PPMO) to conduct
project management duties such as research, scoping, resource planning, and
risk analysis. Mentors team members, develops documentation and technical
guidelines and diagrams.
Researches
emerging technologies and trends in the Oracle Database and applications market
and develops proposals on how these trends impact the Duquesne environment.
Assist with the implementation of new software and upgrades of existing
software.
Works with
Duquesne module leaders to plan and implement Ellucian patches and upgrades.
Build and configure Banner modules to perform needed functionality according to
documented processes and procedures.
Works with
vendors to diagnose integration, functionality, and performance issues.
Monitors and manages TDX tickets. Provides Banner application and functional
support, maintains support tickets with Ellucian / Oracle / third party
vendors.
Completes other
duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT or a related field from an accredited
educational institution.
3-5 years of
related work experience.
Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of
experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities
required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not
limited to, the following:
Ability to conduct independent research into technical subjects and present
findings or recommendations.
Ability to make
and defend decisions in ambiguous technical environments.
Strong analytical
and organizational skills, attention to detail, in addition to outstanding
written and verbal communication, technical writing skills, and presentation
skills required.
Ability to
initiate and follow through with work responsibilities and to meet deadlines.
Ability and
willingness to learn new technologies and skillsets.
Ability to
correlate fixes available in patches with identified functional and technical
issues. Work with Duquesne module
leaders as needed to plan for upgrades and patches.
Advanced SQL
skills and experience migrating database objects. Advanced Shell Scripting.
Displays advanced
understanding of application server hardware and software architecture.
Ability to
execute complex database administration tasks to support the campus ERP and
related technologies. Ability to
troubleshoot and support the campus ERP application with strong analytical
sense. Install, maintain, and integrate
database and application components.
Advanced level of
applied knowledge of database structures, theories, principles, practices, and
processes.
Ability to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University
Community.
