AY2627 Undergraduate Lab Aide - Physics (Work-Study Preferred)
About this role
Lab aides are essential to the smooth functioning of all general physics labs. Their main responsibility is to assist the main lab instructor as needed. They have no face-to-face time with students. The lab aide’s direct supervisor is the lab instructor.
Duties:
Set up lab tables as per the schedule and ensure all equipment is in good running order. (55%)
Mark lab reports as per the lab instructor’s rubric. (30%)
Assist during lab finals week as needed. (2%)
Perform related lab duties as directed by the lab instructor (testing, inventory). (8%)
Assist in proctoring of exams in the department of physics. (5%)
Weekly time commitment
11 -15 hours per week.
Stipend
Lab aides receive a stipend of $12.00 per hour. While holding this job, a student may not take any additional Duquesne University employment.
Required Skills
Good communication skills, dependability, attention to detail, ability to follow complex directions and ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Good hands-on skills. Must have taken two semesters of calculus-based physics with in-person lab. Must be enrolled in a physics class at 300 level or above.
