Position Title: Peer Mentor
Estimated Hours per week: 10
Responsibilities & Duties:

Peer Mentors will be supervised by the Peer Mentor Coordinator, under the direction of the Assistant Dean of Academic Programs and Student Affairs. They provide valuable current-student perspective to their peers, including other current students and incoming (prospective) students.

Duties include:

  • Participating in initial training, and attending monthly meetings with Peer Mentor Coordinator
  • Participating in various events for the Center for Student Success such as FAST, New Student Orientation, Majors Fairs, admitted student events, Duq Days Open House, etc. to provide valuable current student perspective.
  • Giving tours of Rockwell to prospective students.
  • Greeting students and answering general questions at the CSS reception desk.
  • Offering peer mentor ‘drop-in’ hours within the CSS, when students can stop by to ask questions.
  • Assisting with ongoing seminars hosted by the Center for Student Success
  • Stuffing giveaway bags and folders for recruitment events
  • Continued employment is contingent upon satisfactory job performance evaluation by the Peer Mentor Coordinator and Assistant Dean of Academic Programs and Student Affairs at the end of each semester

Required Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must be a student in the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business
  • Must have at least one semester remaining at Duquesne University
  • Have attended Duquesne University for at least two semesters
  • Have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Strong customer service skills and communication skills
  • Has a passion for helping students
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Reliable, flexible, detail oriented, adaptable to change in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to interact in a positive manner with colleagues, students, faculty, and staff
  • General familiarity with the university policies and procedures is desirable
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and general office equipment
