AY2627 Make A Wish Internships (Work-Study Required)

These positions are off campus and are paid at $15/hour. Students must qualify for work-study.

3 different internships are available: 

Development (Fundraising & Special Events)

For this internship, it is required that applicants submit a writing sample with their resume and cover letter. 
Responsibilities include: 

  • Assist the development team that is responsible for raising funds for children’s wishes 
  • Learn information about the children’s wishes while writing wish stories for thank you letters
  • Assist with the Kids for Wish Kids® and Wishmakers on Campus® fundraising programs 
  • Update fundraising reports using Microsoft Excel
  • Utilize fundraising software for donor care 
  • May include attending event planning meetings 
  • May include assisting at events depending on intern’s availability. Events are usually during weekends or evenings 
  • Learn about corporate and individual giving 
  • Make follow-up telephone calls to donors and volunteers (no telemarketing involved) 
  • Assist in office duties as needed      

Marketing & Communications

For this internship, it is required that applicants submit a writing sample with their resume and cover letter. Good phone skills and excellent writing skills are required. Experience with social media, news writing, photography and videography a plus.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Completing stories on fulfilled wishes for general use and distribution
  • Writing and distributing press releases
  • Creating and assisting with creation of content for chapter’s social media platforms
  • Writing articles for our volunteer newsletter
  • Helping organize community relations and outreach programs
  • Assisting with promotional events or general office duties as needed

Program Services Wish Team

For this internship, it is required that applicants submit a writing sample with their resume and cover letter. 

  • Assist in fulfilling children’s wishes including travel, celebrity, occupational and gift wishes. Tasks may include: 
  • Making travel arrangements and creating itineraries 
  • Write thank you letters and follow up correspondence upon the completion of a wish 
  • Researching wish ideas and making telephone calls to donors and vendors 
  • Participating in the fulfillment of gift wishes (for example, shopping sprees) and/or wish parties 
  • Plan and participate in wish kid events 
  • Assist with and participate in volunteer activities such as training  
  • Additional projects as assigned or required by the student’s internship program
  • Assist with office duties as needed
