Packaging and fabrication engineers - DTU Nanolab

Kgs. Lyngby · On-site

About this role

The Q-PLANET project is an EU funded project aimed to establish a European pilot line for quantum applications and creation of the state-of-the-art quantum devices. These quantum devices would specifically be implemented and integrated in neutral atoms quantum applications. The project is a consortium with around 30 partners from both academia and industry. DTU Nanolab is one major partner, mainly focused on Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC) fabrication and packaging.

We are seeking up to 4 engineers to join our Q-PLANET team at DTU Nanolab. Three will mainly be working on packaging and one on device fabrication. Within this project you will get to collaborate with our team to help develop and establish a Process and Assembly Design Kit (PDK/ ADK).

The job
The device fabrication engineer will mainly be working on the development and standardization of optical elements fabrication, where most of the work will be conducted in DTU Nanolab’s clean room facilities. The packaging engineers will work on the establishment of the Assembly Design Kit (ADK) of optical and electrical elements. Most of the work will be focusing on optical fibre integration into PIC, chip bonding, and optical characterization.

Our expectations of you
We expect you to have a master or a PhD in engineering, physics or similar technical relevant background.

It is essential to have high experience in the following:

For the clean room engineer

  • Basic fabrication skills including Dry etching (experience with SiN and TFLN will be preferable), thin film deposition (thermal, E-beam, PECVD, ALD, etc), and lithography (E-Beam, UV, and DUV)
  • Characterization including: Ellipsometry, SEM, AFM, PL, etc.

For the Packaging engineer:

  • Advanced dicing techniques, including edge polishing
  • Chip bonding (wire and flip chip)
  • Fiber array packaging
  • Optical and electrical characterization besides AFM and SEM

We also expect that you

  • Have high communication and coordination skills
  • Can work independently on given tasks
  • Will systematically report and document process development results
  • Enjoy working on projects with high level of collaboration
  • Are fluent in English

What we offer in return
We offer an interesting and challenging job in a very international environment. Through Q-PLANET you will have the chance to contribute to the speeding wheel of quantum hardware development. A job where you will work with state-of-the-art semiconductor fabrication equipment. The Technical University of Denmark is a leading university in Northen Europe, and our facility is among the largest and most advanced fair access facilities in Europe.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). You are employed as an Academic Officer, Senior Officer, Senior Executive Officer. In addition, supplements can be negotiated in accordance with DTU’s salary structure for academic staff employed in technical-administrative positions at DTU (AC TAP): https://www.inside.dtu.dk/en/human-resources/during-employment/salary/salary-structures

The position is a full-time position. Starting date is 1st November 2026 (or as soon as possible).

The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.

Application and contact
Please submit your online application no later than Wednesday, 9 September 2026. Open the “Apply now” link, fill out the form and attach your motivated application, CV and exam certificates.

If you would like additional information about the position, please contact Thomas Pedersen on 4525 5833 or [email protected] or Rawa Tanta on 4525 5709 or  [email protected] .

Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, disability, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply. As DTU works with research in critical technology, which is subject to special rules for security and export control, open-source background checks may be conducted on qualified candidates for the position.

DTU Nanolab is a common infrastructure and research facility located at and fully owned by the Technical University of Denmark, DTU. The core facilities consist of a large cleanroom and a state-of-the-art electron microscopy center inaugurated in 2007. The research activities carried out at DTU Nanolab span from nano- and microfabrication with Silicon-based materials, carbon and polymers to the highly sophisticated analysis of nanoscale materials in hard and soft matter. Since 2018, DTU Nanolab has extended to provide expertise in soft matter from small molecule complexes to biological cells.

DTU – For the benefit of society since 1829
DTU is one of Europe's leading elite technical universities. Through research and education at an international top level, we create solutions to the major societal challenges of our time and help secure Europe's global leadership in sustainable technological development. Since Hans Christian Ørsted founded DTU almost 200 years ago, our mission has remained the same: We develop and create value through the natural and technical sciences for the benefit of society. DTU has 13,800 students, 1,600 PhD students, and 6,500 employees. We work in an international environment and have an inclusive, stimulating, and informal work culture.
