About this role
The software behind Dognosis has to be right, because a missed signal can mean a missed cancer. You will lead our software team and own the system and architecture decisions that keep our platform reliable as it scales.
The Stack
We run Rust for performance-critical services, Python for data and ML pipelines, and Vue3 with TypeScript on the front end, over PostgreSQL and TimescaleDB, on AWS and GCP. Real-time multi-modal data flows through Lab Streaming Layer and ZMQ from a fleet of edge devices.
What You Will Do
- Lead the software team, setting technical direction and raising the engineering bar.
- Own system and architecture design across services, data, and edge.
- Keep our platform reliable and scalable as sample volume and deployments grow.
- Set the standards for testing, review, and delivery that the team builds on.
- Turn hard, ambiguous problems into clear designs the team can execute.
What Success Looks Like (6 Months)
- The team ships reliably against a clear architecture you have set.
- Core systems handle rising load and data volume without reliability regressions.
- Testing and review practices are consistent across the team.
You Are a Good Fit If
- You have built and scaled reliable software systems in production.
- You have 5 to 7 years or more of engineering, with some experience leading engineers.
- You think in systems and architecture, not just features.
- You raise the reliability and quality bar wherever you work.
- You want to own the whole software surface rather than one service.
Valuable but Not Required
- You have worked in health or another field where the margin of error is low.
- You have experience with Rust, real-time data systems, or edge fleets.
- You have set engineering direction for a growing team.
What You Will Get
- Ownership of the software behind a test published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology and covered in Scientific American and New Scientist.
- Architecture decisions that directly shape whether cancer gets caught early, at scale.
- A small, interdisciplinary team spanning engineers, scientists, clinicians, and working detection dogs. The office is never boring.
