Mō te tūranga | About the role

Cash flow is the lifeblood of the organisation, and this role sits right at the centre of it. As Team Lead, Accounts Receivable, you will guide a specialist team responsible for billing, collections, and credit control—ensuring revenue is accurately captured and cash is collected on time, every time.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll balance operational oversight with people leadership, system improvement, and stakeholder engagement. You will work closely with internal partners such as the National Transaction Centre and Regional Operations teams, as well as external customers, to resolve billing issues, strengthen collection outcomes, and ensure a seamless end-to-end receivables process. You’ll also play a key role in audit readiness, system integrity (including booking system reconciliation), and continuous improvement of processes and reporting.

The position will be focussed on:

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Accounts Receivable team to ensure accurate, timely invoicing, receipting, and effective credit control across all customer accounts

  • Monitor debtor ageing and proactively manage collections, dispute resolution, and escalation of overdue accounts to minimise bad debt risk

  • Ensure integrity of Accounts Receivable ledgers, including reconciliations, booking system integrity, and timely resolution of reconciling items

  • Partner with internal stakeholders and customers to resolve billing issues, improve processes, and enhance end-to-end revenue assurance outcomes

  • Drive performance, compliance, and continuous improvement across AR operations, including audit responses, reporting, planning, and system/process enhancements

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Strong technical expertise in Accounts Receivable, billing, credit control, and debt management within high-volume environments

  • Previous experience of SAP S/4Hana is desirable

  • Proven experience leading and developing teams, including coaching, performance management, and capability building

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret ageing reports, reconcile accounts, and identify financial risks or anomalies

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to manage sensitive customer and dispute conversations effectively

  • Sound understanding of internal control frameworks, audit requirements, and financial governance in a regulated environment

  • Demonstrated experience working in or with large government or complex organisational environments with strict financial delegations and compliance requirements

  • Ability to manage competing priorities, plan effectively, and deliver against operational and strategic objectives

  • Commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and high-performance team culture with strong focus on wellbeing, collaboration, and continuous improvement
