The Dock Worker role is critical to customer service and key to ensuring that customer requirements are met. Dock Workers are responsible for the proper, safe, and timely handling of all inbound and outbound freight. This includes maintaining a clean work environment with a focus on protecting customer freight from damage through proper handling techniques.
Key skills for this position include time management, organization, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
How You’ll Help
- Move and handle large and cumbersome freight in a dock environment, typically up to 75 lbs.
- For freight items over 75 lbs., utilize company-provided mechanical aids (such as forklifts, pallet jacks, lift-assist devices, or team lifts) to ensure safe handling and compliance with safety regulations.
- Ensure compliance with TDG, WHMIS, company policies/procedures, and customer-specific requirements.
- Use proper handling techniques at all times to protect customer freight from damage.
Your Skills & Experience
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. independently; able to work as part of a team or with mechanical aids to move freight exceeding 75 lbs.
- Safety-minded, with demonstrated understanding of safe lifting and handling practices.
- Comfortable with physical labor and active work (bending, crouching, etc.). Repeatedly able to lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time, and walk various distances.
- Must be able to work in environments with loud noise.
- Willingness and flexibility to work shifts outside of regular business hours, including evenings, weekends, and a variety of shift schedules as required by business needs.
