General Summary:

Under general supervision, performs cleaning and servicing of vehicles, facilities and right-of-way (ROW) for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Maintenance Department. Also, assists mechanics in the areas according to assigned location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates steam-cleaning equipment to clean vehicle areas and vehicle components; operate machinery and motor vehicles.
  • Cleans facilities and grounds in compliance with Stormwater Pollution Prevention and Spill Control and Countermeasures requirements.
  • Inspects tires for flats or defects, and repairs and/or replace as necessary; rotates tires as required; torques lug nuts.
  • Performs bus/Light Rail Vehicle (LRV), Non-revenue vehicles (NRV) service as required which includes, but is not limited to driving bus through washer, operating vacuum cleaner system, dusting seats and interior, washing vehicle floor and soiled areas, etc.
  • Performs bio-hazard and bloodborne pathogen cleanup at facilities and on vehicles in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Assists technicians or mechanics with maintenance, service and repair of vehicles and/or facilities, which includes, but is not limited to checking fuel, engine oil, fluid levels, adding and/or replacing as required.
  • Transports non-commercial vehicles and/or facility parts between areas; non-commercial vehicle exchanges.
  • Promotes and adheres to established safety, training, and quality assurance programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

  • High School diploma or general education diploma (GED).
  • Must be able to communicate in a clear and concise manner and read and comprehend safety regulations.
  • Must have a valid Texas Drivers License class C; no Driving While Intoxicated (DWI/DUI) conviction within the last (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Must pass a physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles; incumbents are subject to the federal testing regulations of safety sensitive positions, which include random alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment.
  • Must be able to orally communicate in an effective manner with the public, co-workers, supervisors and managers to ensure efficient operations; to promote safety; and to respond to emergencies. Must also be able to read and comprehend safety rules and regulations.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and be able to interact effectively with a diverse customer population while under pressure.
  • Ability to work variable shifts, irregular hours, nights, holidays, weekends, and short notice availability. May be required to travel to multiple work locations.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to seventy (70) pounds such as tools, equipment, and parts; must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces on the vehicle, tunnel, and aerial structures.
  • Operates DART non-revenue vehicles as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment where there is exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
