Responsibilities
Indicative Responsibilities
Depending on the selected department and focus area (e.g. Accounting, HR, Education, Makerspace), responsibilities may include:
- Supporting day-to-day departmental operations through hands-on involvement
- Assisting with data entry, documentation, reporting, and record keeping
- Contributing to department-specific tasks, such as:
- Financial data processing and reporting (Accounting)
- Recruitment, onboarding, and HR administration (HR)
- Workshop design and educational content development (Education)
- Prototyping, fabrication, and creative project support (Makerspace)
- Participating in ongoing projects and real organisational activities
- Supporting the preparation of materials, tools, or deliverables relevant to each function
- Collaborating with teams and gaining exposure to internal processes and workflows
- Assisting in events, workshops, or internal initiatives, where applicable
- Ensuring accuracy, organisation, and confidentiality in all assigned tasks
- Taking initiative in learning and supporting additional tasks as needed

General qualifications and requirements
Qualifications
- Students or recent graduates in relevant fields, depending on the department (e.g. Business, Finance, HR, Education, Engineering, Design, etc.)
- Basic understanding of the relevant functional area
- Familiarity with standard tools (e.g. MS Office; design or technical tools where applicable)
Skills & Competencies
- Strong organisation and attention to detail
- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Proactive attitude and willingness to learn
- Adaptability in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment
- Professionalism and sense of responsibility
Additional Requirements
- Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information appropriately
- Good command of English
- Reliability and commitment to the agreed internship period

CYENS Centre of Excellence (formerly known as RISE) is the Research and Innovation Centre on Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies empowering knowledge and technology transfer in the region. CYENS CoE is supported by the European Commission, the Republic of Cyprus and its founding Partners, the Municipality of Nicosia, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPI), University College London, the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology and the Open University of Cyprus.
The Centre conducts excellent, internationally competitive scientific research in the areas of visual sciences, human factors and design, communication, and artificial intelligence delivered by high-calibre multidisciplinary research teams. CYENS engages in knowledge transfer and innovation activities aiming to bridge the gap between scientific research and STEM-led innovation and entrepreneurship.
CYENS, as a Centre of Excellence, cultivates a culture of innovation and creativity in an inspiring environment filled with academics, researchers, creative and onward-looking people, innovators, entrepreneurs, and practitioners. The Centre operates under the moto “Inspired by Humans Designed for Humans” with the vision to produce world class research that drives innovation towards social and economic benefit while conducting excellent, internationally competitive scientific research in the areas of visual sciences, human factors and design, communication, and artificial intelligence. It sets out to meet the challenge with a total potential funding of more than 30 million Euros for the first 7 years, from a Horizon 2020 Teaming Action and multiple other sources, and a business plan for long-term sustainability and growth.

CYENS Centre of Excellence is the first research centre in Cyprus focusing on interactive media, smart systems, and emerging technologies aiming to become a Centre of Excellence empowering knowledge and technology transfer in the region. It is a joint venture between the three public universities of Cyprus (University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology, Open University of Cyprus), the Municipality of Nicosia, and two renowned international partners, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPI) from Germany and University College London (UCL) from the UK.
CYENS will be an integrator of academic research and industrial innovation, towards the sustainable fueling of scientific, technological and socio-economic growth of Cyprus and Europe. The Centre sets out to meet the challenge with a total potential funding of over 30 million Euros for the first seven years, from a Horizon 2020 Team Action and multiple other sources including the Government of Cyprus, and a business plan for long-term sustainability and growth.
Hosting CYENS in the historic heart of Nicosia is part of the strategy of the city to foster the development of an inclusive innovation and creativity ecosystem. CYENS will be catalytic in this respect by complementing other infrastructures and services in this area while mobilizing significant knowledge networks and social capital. Further, it will provide a solid scientific base that will encourage the development and application of new technologies and innovative entrepreneurship and will also offer support to the start up community and established innovation companies.
