Project Assistant - Level III - Health and Safety
About this role
We are looking for a talented Project Assistant - Level III - Health and Safety to join our team specializing in Health and Safety for our Service Operations Department in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
- Contribute to the successful delivery of projects by supporting the execution of defined tasks and workstreams under the guidance of a project manager
- Build foundational project management capability by managing smaller components of projects and progressively taking on more responsibility
- Coordinate administrative and logistical activities to ensure smooth project execution, including scheduling, documentation, and resource support
- Assist in identifying, tracking, and resolving project issues while developing the ability to manage these independently over time
- Support the monitoring and communication of project progress, ensuring stakeholders are kept informed on status, risks, and milestones
- Contribute to budget tracking, research, and analysis, helping to ensure projects remain aligned with financial and operational expectations
- Support risk identification and mitigation efforts by applying quality tools and contributing to proactive project planning
- Capture and share lessons learned, maintain accurate project records, and contribute to continuous improvement across projects and teams
In addition to the core Health and Safety Assistant responsibilities, the position supports Branch specific HSE requirements:
- Supports implementation of the Branch and Corporate HSE workplans by tracking actions, updating records, and following up on assigned tasks.
- Assists with monthly HSE KPI tracking, data validation, and reporting through Enablon and other Cummins HSE systems.
- Coordinates and supports HSE meetings, including agenda preparation, minutes, and action tracking.
- Manages and maintains HSE management system documentation and records in line with ISO 45001 and internal requirements.
- Maintains the training matrix, supports scheduling of training, and coordinates with external training providers.
- Delivers or coordinates toolbox talks, awareness sessions, and targeted HSE campaigns as planned.
- Supports incident reporting, investigation processes, and corrective action tracking in line with Cummins requirements.
- Assists with maintaining branch risk assessments, task-based risk assessments, and environmental aspects registers, engaging relevant stakeholders.
- Participates in scheduled HSE inspections field and marine visits, records findings, and supports close-out of actions.
- Supports contractor and customer safety management activities, including safety file coordination and compliance tracking.
- Assists with change management reviews to ensure HSE risks are identified and addressed.
- Supports legal compliance activities by maintaining training records, assisting with appointments, and implementing compliance related actions.
- Maintains waste management records and supports submission of monthly and quarterly environmental data.
- Supports internal and external HSE audits by preparing documentation and following up on audit actions.
