Automation Technician - White Tail Automation

We're looking for an experienced Automation Technician II to join the White Tail Automation team. In this role, you'll install, troubleshoot, maintain, and commission automation and control systems for our oil and gas clients. You'll work alongside a skilled team of professionals while providing technical expertise in the field and delivering safe, high-quality solutions.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automation, instrumentation, and control systems in oil and gas facilities.
  • Perform field installation and commissioning of RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, communication equipment, instrumentation, and associated control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with instrumentation, control devices, communication systems, and automation equipment.
  • Configure, test, and verify field devices including Coriolis meters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, valves, solenoids, and related instrumentation.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, loop diagrams, P&IDs, wiring schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and system testing to ensure reliable operation.
  • Maintain accurate records of labour, materials used, service activities, and completed work.
  • Work closely with Supervisors, Project Managers, and fellow technicians to complete projects safely and efficiently.
  • Properly maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, and inventory.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
  • Complete required training and maintain all necessary safety certifications.
  • Follow all company policies, customer requirements, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Your Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years of experience in oil and gas automation, instrumentation, electrical installation, or a related field.
  • Electrical apprenticeship or journeyperson certification is considered an asset.
  • Strong understanding of industrial instrumentation and control devices, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement.
  • Experience working with RTUs, PLCs, controllers, HMIs, communication radios, and SCADA systems.
  • Understanding of analog and digital inputs/outputs (AI, AO, DI, DO) and field wiring practices.
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols and networking fundamentals, including IP addressing.
  • Ability to install and wire battery and solar power systems in both series and parallel configurations.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
